hi evry1...im new to knife forum...but anyway. i just purchased a ka bar usmc 1211 and was wondering if any1 had any issues with the knife or anything positive to say about it. i did some research but i was hoping for a few more data points before i take it out and thrash on it with some heavy duty utility tasks eg batoning, chopping etc. ANY imput would be great because im still undecided whether or not to simply make it a collection piece or EDC it. thanks in advance

As long as you really don't beat the heck out of it you will be fine.

They are good knives, but if you push them really hard they will bend near the guard. I bent a few of them back in the 80's, but after I found out what the limits were and didn't go past that they worked fine.

Don't try and cut anything really hard like metal or beat on rocks or the edge will tear out. Carry a sharpening stone or diamond sharpener with you.

I've never bent mine at the guard like some have, but I have had mine shift slightly at the guard while chopping. The blade sits a little crooked now, but it's still functional.

I have had multiple Kabars over the years and have yet to have any of the USMC style knives fail me.

+1. I've owned two in the past decade and they have been my primary camping and hiking sidekick w/o a failure.
