Buck could add an American made, trapper style slipjoint to the lineup. Similar to the 382 in saw cut, valox, Delrin, or Rosewood. I don't know why We've never seen an American made Buck trapper in recent times, or if they even existed (though I could have swore I saw one). Anyhow, I could dig a Buck trapper in their 420HC, and sporting the thicker, deeply hollow ground blades. Such a knife could have the potential to be a good, workhorse.

I'm sure that they could easily add one if they felt there was a large enough market for them. They've produced a few USA made trappers in the past and I have a few of them. Here's a picture of a couple that I have:

The 311, 312, 314. are all American made Trappers Buck has made and are fairly easy to find, on the auction sites.

I like mine.

Those are some excellent looking specimens, I can't imagine why Buck discontinued the 311, I'd imagine people would still buy them in this day and age. I think It'd sell pretty well. But, the 301, 303, and 309, and 305 are good enough patterns for near any tasks, but still a Buck Trapper of American origin, would be the bee's knees IMHO.

I ment to do a forum search before starting to type but got off track. I think there have been a couple of good postings on the 312/314 trappers models in the past. I think I wrote a BCCI newsletter article on them. They have been discontinued for a spell. The model 329 Freedom Trapper shown by Plumb, is a copy of a Camillus model. I have always looked on it as the "ole yellow trapper" all the adults carried when I was a kid. The 311 as mentioned above is common on the bay in various states of wear. All were contract made by Camillus for Buck. They are slim bladed trappers, which I have been told, usually second hand, they were a favorite of muskrat trappers. I have not seen a lot of broken bladed ones but the length and slim blade profile would not led it to being a prybar. There were a very few 3122/314s issued in fancy scales. Expect to find most in black sawcut.

I think the off-shore trapper models were fairly popular and a nice new USA one would likely also be the same. I favor one a hair bigger than the 312 not so large as the 314. That ole 329 was just about right, as our granddad's suggested. Jigged bone scales would be great also.

314 on left, 312's on right. Blue colored bone and jigged bone along with black sawcut. The fancy ones won't be cheap.

Does anyone (This probably means 300Bucks) have production numbers for the 312s and 314s?

Was dragging my feet hoping Plumb had it. I can dig for it but don't have it at hand. Yes, I need to organize that stuff better to have it immediately.
Here is a little something. 300

312 - Made from 1990 to 1999.
314 - From 1990 to one year earlier 1998 (Listed in catalog but as discontinued model, not in 99 catalog.)

Thanks 300, but what I am really looking for is the number produced. It seems that the 312s and 314s don't show up for sale all that often when compared to the 311s and 313s.
