Yeh, I left my kershaw in my pocket, it got washed and dried, and opened up in the dryer and cut up my brand new dryer up.

This knife is a couple years old, it's completely my fault, but I notice the assisted speed safe is not working so good, has anyone ever done this, is there anyway to fix the speed safe?

Call or email Kershaw and ask them to send out a new torsion bar, could be that the current one broke. Or you could send it in and have them fix and resharpen it.

It opens but doesn't lock out? You think I would of known something was wrong when the dryer was making a lot of noise.

I've done the exact same thing. Take it apart and lubricate.

I've done it with a slip joint and it came out clean as a hounds tooth, just had to lube it up.

If memory serves correctly I THINK they use white lithium grease for the torsion bar. More than likely you just removed all the grease and it's having problems now due to it. A quick disassembly and regreasing will probably fix it.

I have a Tremor that needs that done, it seems when I oiled my knife awhile ago it messed with the grease and it doesn't like working now. I just haven't got around to it as that knife is seldom used due to size/weight.

Kershaw uses Superlube synthetic multi-purpose grease for greasing the torsion bar pocket and pivot washers. Any grease should work in a well used knife, if you've got some petroleum jelly handy, try that.

Tell me you used fabric softener :D

Jk, bud! Try to lube it up, and if that doesn't work, I'm confident Kershaw will take care of ya

You'd think but I've had a flashlight that liked to get tumbled every now and again. That extra noise is just the dryer doing a better job than the 1000 times before right? :D
Hope your knife is a quick fix like people are saying.

Forget about the knife, what was the tab to repair the dryer?
Wishful thinking! Enamelled steel is not friendly to any sort of blade.
One; I know no one that machine-washes their knives and Two; who in their right mind would toss a perfectly good knife in a dryer?
I personally appreciate and admire folks that maintain knives with carbon steel blades and wood handles, also knowing they'd never dream of submitting a post such as this.
It could be the department store junk that is out there these days is impervious to the elements but it has no character or personality and I have no wish to own one except as a spare for my tool or tacklebox. Whoever Kershaw is or makes I'd like to see what a bonehead owner and his Maytag does to one. Way better test than merely carving sticks!

Yeah, I've washed my spyderco copilot many times. I usually blame the old lady for taking my work pants before they were truely "dirty". Whatever, that knife is pretty stiff now to open in spite of many attempts to relub. as it is pinned I just live with it. Dont know that its ever made it thru the dryed tho.

I accidentally did the same recently with my Spyderco Dragonfly 2. Luckily it stayed clipped and closed and only ended up getting extremely cleaned up. Funny, with the FRN scales it doesn't even feel like it needs lube. Guess I should still put something on the backlock and the pivot soon but it's still very smooth so I haven't done anything yet.

Ugh, there are a lot of cuts on the fins of the dryer, and I used fabric softener (snuggles) and dryer sheets in the dryer.

Knife Really smells sexy now.

I'll take it apart tomorrow thanks for the help,

I was just driving home with my wife in our new Nissan frontier, and out of no where is a big buck, (deer)

His head drilled the corner of my truck, bent the stainless steel fender in so far it's hitting the front right tire, corner panel is busted, headlight and some damage to the grill. There's deer hair stuck between the tire and the rim.

Thank god he didn't come threw the windshield, and I hope he died instantly, I was going 55 mph

Did you keep it? (the buck)

Nope, I circled slowly going back to my house and I didn't see people swiving out of the 2 lane highway to avoid anything.

I have no clue where he ended up , I was about 1 mile from my house. My concern was getting the truck back without the tire blowing out.

I'll post pics tomorrow, and call insurance agent. I think I got a $800 dollar deduct able

Update: it is working fine now, I didn't have to do a thing. Amazing knife. I'm sure it's a lil dry now but the speed safe is back to normal, tough little knife. I'll lube it, and keep using it.

Thanks everybody

I wash my Spyderco Endura FRN's in my washer in jeans pockets. I dry it for a while too. It comes out nice and clean. The pocket lint trapped in the lockback trap gets degreased and comes out easier after washing and drying. It doesn't hurt it even a little. I relube and touch up if needed though closed in the pocket doesn't affect the edge at all. The dryer doesn't get close to hot enough to affect the temper of the steel or melt the FRN.

Haha I love that your knife smells sexy now! And I'm sorry to hear about the deer. Glad you and the Mrs. are ok, though. Once, when my band was on tour in California, some random uninsured driver crashed into us, totally demolishing the driver's side of the rental van. Sucked big time. The fender was tearing into the front tire so bad we could smell it burning as we drove to the nearest Wal-Mart. I know how unsettling it can be driving an auto in that condition.
