Well a VERY new sebenza owner here. Going on 3 whole weeks. Took a week or so to figure out the lube i like. However the knife just still had a gritty aspect to it. I am the type of guy that even my glock parts are all polished and it takes them toa new level imho. So read a little and decided to polish the washers. I used a VERY stiff piece of leather with mothers polish and VERY
Light pressure to polish and not remove very much metal. About 20 seconds each and it was like a mirror. Reassembled and holy crap. So smooth it is unreal. Juat wondering why CR wouldnt do this at the factory???

as a tinkerer myself, i have done that as well, just to see.

as far as the factory, my guess would be it is more work than it is worth, and the washers get smoother anyway over time.

I would be afraid I might mess something up and introduce blade play. I personally think its a bit risky but hey whatever works for you .

Well if it helps any...it is not really a big material removal process. Using a stone or 2000 grit paper would be bad imho. However the strop had almost no color change i.e. Metal build up. Zero change in lockup and zero change in bladeplay. Plus this is the same wear you would have after say... A year of use...just sped up a little.

The owner of 2 Sebenzas and 1 Umnumzaan here and I have never had any kind of opening problem - gritty or otherwise.

it wasn't a problem, per se, but my 21 was definitely not as buttery smooth as my large regular.

however, i have found a drop of oil on the detent ball has the best effect on opening.

I wouldnt call it an opening "problem" by any stretch. This is an amazing knife. Just saw a small amount of room for improvement. Fwiw i am using a mix of mpro 7 and shooters choice grease. Seems to keep up longevity and i seem to clean it once every two weeks or so.
