I have a knife with plastic washers on either side of the blade on the pivot pin. My guestion(and please excuse my ignorance), can I change these for metal, should I change these for metal, and if so what kind (brass, bronze???), and is it difficult to do ?? Thanks

They can be changed if you can get the folder apart and back together in proper working order.
Whatever material washer you replace the old ones with will need to be the same thickness as the old ones.

The big question is "Do you really need to replace the washers".

Got to the archives and do a search on washers in the shoptalk forum. In fact were just discussing the pros and cons of metal versus plastic a few weeks ago. Kit, Darrel and a lot of others use teflon or nylatron. That tells you something.......

The folder has plastic washers, one of which has been slightly bent/deformed by the liner lock. The blade (when closed) appears to have shifted slightly towards the liner so when you open the blade it rubs against the liner. I thought if I could replace it with metal it would be less likely to be deformed by th slight pressure if the liner lock on the washer.

More than likely it is not a washer problem but just the fact that the pivot screw has come loose a bit that is making the blade sit cockeyed....tighten it up and the problem should go away.
