Confession time: who among us has sent a knife through the wash? There are two types of people: those who have washed a knife, and those who will. :) Maybe three types, including those who have been known to fib occasionally. LOL!

After 17 years of marriage, four kids, and three houses, my wife is finally carrying - and using - a knife daily! The trick was finally giving her one in her favorite color. I’ve given and offered her a few different knives over the years, but it took a purple Spyderco Delica to put a smile on her face.

The next challenge will be getting her to remember to take it out of her jeans before washing them. This purple Delica has been through the washing machine no less than five times - that she’s admitted to - and the dryer at least three that I know about. LOL!

The positives are that she is carrying and using it, she hasn’t lost it (like the pink Dragonfly I gave her), and it’s the cleanest knife in the house. The VG-10 has great stainless qualities, that’s for sure. There’s not a speck of rust (or dirt or pocket lint) on it. :)

She is fortunate that it didn’t come open during the wash and shred the clothes.

Not long ago a guy had a new small Buck Bugie s35vn blade that did just that. Not only did it shred the clothes but it ruined the washing machine. That little knife did a lot of damage and killed a washing machine!

I guess that's an advantage of carrying around something bulky like a Leatherman tool. Harder to miss in the wash. The only thing I've put through the laundry is a Gerber Artifact, and it came out of the dryer just loose enough that the x-acto blade closes outside of the handle if I'm not careful. Now that I'm looking at it again, I might have the right torx bit somewhere.

It happens. My wifey checks my pockets pretty good. Partly so she doesn’t get Excedrine on the clothes.
I gave her a teal M4 that she accidentally washed.
That knife had rust spots all over and was my first break down to clean and oil it up.

Holy smokes - that would be a bad day, for sure!

That'll catch you by surprise!

I've had the small one (Gayle Bradley Air) go through the wash several times because it's so easy to forget that it's even there 😳. The CPM-M4 has held up well though.
The bigger framelock version I had made is easier to keep track of.

Who made the larger one - that's a good-looking knife.

I have a ferrum forge gent that is perfectly clean now after leaving it in my pocket!
The blade was magnetized for a couple of weeks but that's all.

S35VN / Ti / CF... all materials held up great! So yeah...anyway you look at it the knife is spotless 😁
