Knife Rights Director of Legislative Affairs, Todd Rathner, was in Olympia, Washington, on Wednesday to lobby for SB 5534, the the bipartisan “Spring Blade” Ban Repeal bill, which went on to pass the Senate by a vote of 46-2. It’s now off to the House.

SB 5534 would repeal the ban on sales and civilian possession of “spring blade” (automatic) knives, as well as specifically exclude them from the definition of “dangerous weapon.”

We sincerely appreciate the efforts by our bipartisan bill sponsors, Senators T’wina Nobles and Phil Fortunato and Senate Law & Justice Committee Chair Manka Dhingra for moving this bill through the Senate.

Hopefully it doesn’t die in the House again. It’s ridiculous that a single committee, or person can prevent the bill from seeing the floor considering the overwhelming bipartisan support the bill has in the senate.

Welcome to my life... 😜 We have a plan. But... And, even then still has to be signed by the governor. I guess if it was easy....

It's such a reasonable change, and so long overdue. Fingers crossed that this is the year!

Google says 1994 enactment of original law? Was going to ask out of curiosity but I think this is correct.

Good to get repealed. Laws go on the books but seldom come off the books and if they do it is not without effort. Thanks

Edit: Does that law make it illegal to even own an assisted knife? I assume no distinction between assisted and automatic in that state?
