Washington fixed blade carry

To the best of my knowledge, there is no state law prohibiting carry of a fixed blade. County and city laws vary, of course. Check out the Municipal Research and Services Center at www.mrsc.org/ . It looks like Federal Way restricts the carry of blades longer than 3" in establishments that serve alcohol "dispensed by the drink" (chapter 6, article 6, line 138.a.2 of Federal Way Municipal Code, according to the website).

Be advised that in Seattle, ALL fixed blades and folders with blades longer than 3.5 inches are considered "dangerous knives" and are illegal to carry.

Fixed blades are generally acceptable everywhere but in the urban areas - I live in Seattle, which is in King County - I can carry a small fixed blade, less than 4" in King County, but I can't carry a fixed blade of any kind in Seattle... period. I don't know about to many of the other counties or municipalities, but if you read the Revised Code of Washington... it won't help you unless you also read the county and municipal codes of those areas you are interested in visiting...
So... there's no real simple answer to the question of knives in WA state... :grumpy:

I know that from experience. I live in Federal Way and was at the End Zone off Pac Highway near Fred Meyer in Des Moines. This was years ago, I was throwing darts with my sister and a few people joined us at the table and board, joining the game. I got to talking about knives (at that time I was working and was collecting those mass produced but cool looking fantasy knives from Smokey Mountain Knife Works) and the ones I had. I had a 6.00$ folder in my pocket, using the pocket clip with the knife in my pocket and metal clip showing outside pocket. They asked to see it, I - foolishly since I was pretty buzzed - whipped it out, flipped it open, and let them look at if. They handed it back and I - jokingly - licked the blade before putting it back in my pocket. Some other patron complained and I was escorted to the door by two burley men. I was just about out the door when one grabs the knife ouf of my pocket, the other grabbing at my arm. I wriggled away and was out and ran accross Pac Highway. I guess, according to my sister, they called the Police, who arrived and took the knife as "evidence." They did not see me as I walked up Pac Highway towards Federal Way, probably because I was drunk and fell in the rain filled ditch a couple times. I miss that knife, the way it looked and felt. It was a knock off of a Colt Python II :grumpy:
