Wasting Wood !

I could almost see it, if it were a Bentley; but a caddy?

The cnc router would be a nice shop addition.

As a machinist I can appreciate the creation of these pieces, but I agree that is alot of wasted material for a vehicle.

Uh...it still could make some nice knife handles. Just find one of those Ciel caddys and liberate the wood from it, after all they have already slabbed it down to a manageble size for us:)

I don't know... I think it's a neat idea myself.

Practical? Probalby not. But it's not like there's a shortage of knife handles or available material out there either... ;)

looks to me liekn they skaned the parts and then remade them (least as theb wording goes )
but you are right would be such a waste even to use olive wood (looked like nicely grained stuff) on a mass production car

OK RE READ/LOOKED AT LINK NOT JSUT READ THE HIGHLIGHT. IT MAKES ME SICK THAT THY DID THAT

We can only hope that SOMEBODY connected with this project is or knows a knifemaker and "liberated" a 5 gallon bucket of scraps for knife handles. :)

If not, what a waste.

Well, guess I'm the odd man out. I think it's pretty darn cool. Yes, there was quite a bit of waste wood... but have you ever thought about how much stuff gets lopped off and tossed when guys like Mark at BurlSource are blocking out pieces for us??? If you added up say, 20 knife handle blocks and looked at how much got cut and ground off during the handle fitting and shaping process, how much would you have really wasted?

I think the 3D machining/routing is amazing.

I think the car is pretty cool too.

A lot of people would be astounded at how knife makers "waste" things like wood, stag, pearl, and ivory on goofy knives. All relative. ;) :)

I would love to have some of this wood but at least it got used and will be enjoyed, so much fallen wood is just used as fire wood.
