I've seen them for sale in some surplus shops and in catalogs like US Cavalry. Are they worth it or should I just get a regular watch cap? Any suggestions?

I have used a blaze orange wool/goretex watchcap (LL Bean, I think) for hunting the last several years and like it. It is warm and the goretex really blocks the wind. The only drawback is that I wear glasses, so I prefer a hat with a bill on it to help keep moisture off the glasses if it is raining or snowing hard. Hope this helps.

I bought a black wool watchcap from US calvalry with gore-tex about two or three years ago. It was alright for about a month, then the gore-tex liner got screwed around inside of the hat. It was not secured into place, it was just a cone of gore-tex between the inner and outer layer of wool, so it was free to float loose inside, which totally negates the wind and waterproofness when all the gore-tex is on one side of the hat. About a month after that the liner rip. It only cost like $12, but I wouldn't get another one. I will try a fleece hat with windstopper next time.
