Looking for recommendations on a new watch. My old Bulova finally gave up the ghost. I'm looking for a new stainless or two-tone (gold/silver) watch. I do not like automatics because I've had bad luck with them in the past.

To give you an idea of what I like, this Citizen Skyhawk is a good example but a little spendy at $400-$600.....

Any ideas?

The Citizen you have posted can be found at times for under 300. Check places like JC Penny when they are running sales. Often times you can get additional discounts by signing up for their credit card an such.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but you might want to check out chronograph.com. They're a pretty reputable seller and often have some good deals on Citizen and Seiko watches.

Check out the pawn shops. I picked up a Seiko that would fit your bill at the local pawn shop here. $450-$550.00 watch for $225.00 with extra link for the band, box and instruction manual.

I've got a Citizen Eco-Drive. Not as fancy as the one in your photo, but I'm sure it was in your price range.

if i wanted a sub $300 watch i would go with a seiko orange monster diver, great rugged watches and only ~ $150 or so.

Thanks guys. It's been a long time since I searched for a watch and cannot believe the diversity of choices available these days. Seiko, Casio, Citizen, Invicta, and others have a tremendous lineup.

I've noticed a trend towards larger diameter cases. The Citizen I posted above is almost 2 inches across! Oh well, plenty to choose from.

The Citizen watch I posted a picture of (my daily-wear watch, BTW), makes the one you posted a picture of look like something a 12 year old girl would wear...It's not called an "Ecozilla" for nothing.:D.:D.

I have a Citizen Eco-Drive
It's reliable. It works. No Batteries to change...

I love the styling and features of the Rolex Submariner
(waterproof, luminous dial, proper bezel, screw down crown, date, SS safety bracelet ...)
...at 1/20 of the price, with greater accuracy, trouble free operation, no mainantance or batteries or required

...It was an easy decision.

If you like it, find the best price you can, get your local jeweller to beat that price and don't think twice.

You will wear it every day for years.
Spend what you have to to get what you want and you won't regret it.

I have had two of the citizen ecodrives (solar-powered). The first one went kaput after a few years, but I liked it enough that I got another (still have yet to see about getting the first one repaired, yeah I'm lazy). It is great never having to worry about batteries.

When I bought my first one, the clerk tried to sell me a Seiko on the grounds that it might not get enough light-exposure. I work nights, sometimes in dim light, but it has never shut down or lost time due to lack of light. If it works for me, it would probably work for 95% of people. Perhaps if you wear long sleeves 24/7, it's not for you.

I've got a couple of Casio's, the original digital G shock that has more functions going for it than I'll ever use, it is about the size of a hockey puck. Also a Invicta chrono that believe it or not is superb and keeps dead nuts time to within a few seconds a month. Just bought a Casio atomic too off the forums here that I haven't recieved yet. Now my go to watch is a Timex Marlin from the 50's. Manual watch that is just now starting to loose a bit of time but still very functional. Very plain looking but still from the 50's how cool is that. This is my fly fishing for steelhead watch in the fall and winter. keepem sharp

From the example you showed it looks like you like a chronograph. I've been eyeballing the Tissot PRC200 for a while and it looks like a really nice watch. It's a Swiss-made quartz. $317 with the bracelet, around $286 with the leather strap at Amazon.

I just bought that watch from JC Penny a few weeks ago. We are in a buyers marked right now. Most of the large department stores will bend over backwards to get your money. When I bought mine they were having a thirty percent off on all Citizen watches. I told them i wanted more off and if they didn't cut me a deal another store would. The manager came out and offered it to me for fifty percent off. I wasn't really planning on buying the watch. Just running my mouth. But for the price I couldn't walk away. When it was all said and done I paid 340.00 plus tax. So it doesn't hurt to ask for a discount.

I have the watch you posted and it’s worth the price, speaking of price I have seen it on the net for $375 recently. Personally I just bought a Citizen Eco-drive (see link) for $143.00, I like it so much I put my Rolex GMT II away for a couple of weeks, my wife think I’m nuts.

Be advised…the watch bug cost more then the knife bug.

Good luck,

Scott
