Bag Care 101A
Man-made insulations:
In future, soak wash in bathtub/large tub with enzyme detergent (e.g. Tide).
Let the bag drain for a couple of hours after you "pull the plug."
Hang to complete drying unless you MUST finish drying on delicate.
Down-insulated.
Same except let drain longer and finish drying in dryer set on delicate setting with a half dozen tennis balls (not tennis shoes) in with the bag.
Commercial dryers have killed lots of sleeping bags, including over 15,000 at the 1985 National Scout Jamboree (melted the contents tags into little balls).
Premium polyester fills have kinks "permanent-waved" into the fibers. High heat caused the waves to come out, greatly reducing the loft of the bag. Even higher heat melts some oft he plasics - zippers and cord-loks, for example.
Dry Cleaning
All dry-cleaning fluids take the silicone coating off premium man-made fills, so moisture handling is sharply reduced.
Most dry-cleaning fluids eat up down. (Stoddard's Solvent doesn't hurt down, but it is uncommon and the trypical attendant has no idea what is being used - when they speak English.)
