this has been a crazy ebay day for me... just yesterday i was contacted by some ebay officials telling me some emails i got were from a guy running a scam. just now i was going through my email and found what looked like an email from ebay, in the spam folder. my ebay account isn't even even on my gmail, which raised eyebrows. then the fact there was a large red BAR over it kind of yelled FAKE.

as you can see they're spoofing the ebay email address, to the average person it would appear to be from ebay.
thankfully gmail has a feature thats in beta that alerts the gmail team of phising attacks and red flags it for all gmail users. here's some info about these kinds of attacks : http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=gmail&answer=8253&rand=0.5095278220007002
i dont want to hear anybody here got burned by these scumbags, so watch out guys!

Good headsup! These creeps are out to wreck the internet :barf:

Both gmail.com and juno.com have caught traps like this for me. If only we could stop the smalltime idiot spam.

Yeah, I get about ten of those a week. Some from 'eBay', some from 'PayPal'. It's easy to see in the code that the addresses are fake.

I've gotten several emails like that, just today I got an email saying I had added an address in CA to my Paypal account, I live in MD and did not authorize any other address. There are two email addresses, spoof@ebay.com, and spoof@paypal.com, and now I am even suspect of those addresses! I once received an email that my eBay account would be closed unless I updated my account. Well, this was a fake email, and I signed into this fake system, they had my password now! Well, I promptly change everything, closed my bank account and credit card that were on Paypal and eBay. It's a pain in the a$$, but I never go into a link that I find in an email, I always go to the main site first.

Thanks for that. I have heard stuff like this about ebay before - I think their database must be less than secure - makes me 'scared of that' & I've never bought anything thru ebay as a result.
