As Bill Cosby used to sarcastically say in his standup routines, "Well that was just GANGS of fun."

Just got back from round two of removing a basal cell carcinoma from my temple. (Dang! It's true now! I gots holes in my head.) But, I got lucky and I don't need chemo or radiation.

Seriously! Wear a hat. With a brim. Wear sun screen. Trust me. Tumor removal does not rank high on the list of recommended recreational activities.

Had the same thing removed from behind my left ear a couple of years ago. Took out a piece of skin about the size of my ear to get it all. I've been wearing wide brimmed hats for twenty years. The odd thing is, it didn't show up until after I started using a handheld cell phone (had a bag phone for a few years first) and it appeared behind the ear that I always use when I'm on the phone. Probably just coincidence, huh.

I had sizable chunk taken out of my back about ten years ago. I have lived in the far north since I was a young man I spent the first 17 years of my life in Arizona. In the summer we rarely wore a shirt and many times got severe sunburns. My dermatologist drags me in once a year for check up.
Thanks for the reminder.

...I'm pure celt, on both side of the family, I evolved to live up in the northern parts of Europe where the sun is a pale thing straining to get through the clouds.

You and me both. I burn easier than a red-headed vampire with freckles. :grumpy:

I wouldn't worry about it. Believe me, if cell phones really did cause cancer I know at least a dozen women who'd be in constant chemo - in fact one in particular would be dead because I swear the damned thing is glued to her ear.

Frank, just when you posted, I forgot my hat and sun block and was on the coast of Palos Verdes Penninsula at Terrenea resort trouble shooting an irrigation controller. I burnt my head and my legs, first sunlight of the summer. I was only out there 2 hrs. but during the noon time sun. It is not real bad but it was odd because you posted as I was burning. I hate and fear bad burns. I can handle the hot, it is the 2nd day deep insane itch that cannot be quenched. It is pure torture. I have been cautious since I do outdoor work about 50% of the time. I burned my ankles and shins real bad when I was 20, and my skin is ugly down there. I am too old to care not to wear shorts, some people ask me what happened. I change from car battery exploded around my feet, to industrial spa accident, and then back to sun burn. It is nice getting older, and not worrying about what people think of your ankles, skin, or even personality for that matter.

I burn if I spend too much time under a 60-watt bulb. I try to cover up as much as possible. My friend Reverend Jon died in his mid-30's as the result of a sunburn he got as a teenager. A boonie hat is your friend.
