My brother, sent me a package for my birthday a few days ago, he is a big watch fan, emphasis on BiG not so much on expensive. His tastes go more flamboyant than mine, I like a very clean face, easily readable without any distracting clutter on the dial. He on the other hand I don't think he would care if it actually didn't show the time, he is kinda like a cat or dog when you use a laser light to make them jump from one spot to another. But I digress, his intentions are good so when I saw this large yellow box I knew it had to be a watch and when I took it from the shipping box, needed some help as it weighed a bit ;) and opened it and sure enough a great big ole Invicta 0073. I ordered a watch repair kit off the river so I could remove 42 links so the watch would fit, that came today and here's a shot of the watch.

For the last 3 days it's been keeping time pretty good, but I'll seldom wear it as it causes my left arm to drag along on the floor. Thinking that I need another similar one for my right wrist so I will be balanced better :)

The lume doesn’t last very long

For a long time, this GPW has been on my wrist.

And my current watch to wear is this Vaer

As you can see, the GPW and Vaer both are very plain dials, no distractions, just simple and easily read.

But, he's my younger brother, one of three with myself being the oldest, and I know of his penchant for flashy things but he knows of my plainness but that doesn't stop him from buying something like this.

Here he is many years ago with a large diver's watch also by Invicta, this one says Swiss Made on the dial so it's a bit better quality I think

Brothers, go figure!

I too dislike huge watches or anything busy.
40mm is the max for me and ideally I'd love a 35mm but since 40 is kind of the standard today I can live with it.
The basic field watch dial with a day/ date is as busy as I'll get.

It's great when people are thinking of you and get gifts related to things you are interested in, but certainly a double edged sword when they don't actually understand the particular taste you have.

That watch does have a couple cool details, even if I probably wouldn't actually want to have them.

I'm not an invicta fan, but their auto 200m diver lookin watches on sales are a great deal. most of the others aren't for me, and do like lots of different types of a watches.

regardless nice gift he got ya.

I also like relatively plain dials and prioritize legibility. I tend to like slightly larger watches, around 42mm or so, and I'm OK with weight up to a point. I have 6 dive watches in my rotation that are at least 42mm, last week I was wearing an Orient Kanno. It is a good example of the style that I like, 44mm diameter, but I couldn't find the weight. Just like with folding knives I found my limit for watches. I once owned a Debaufre flieger, a hand wind watch with 46 or 47mm diameter. I really liked it but finally decided it was a bit big. Or maybe I just didn't like the leather straps they use on fliegers. I also owned an Armida A1 dive watch, 45mm diameter and fairly thick but also it has a very tall dome on the crystal. They now make a smaller version, 42mm I think, and I would probably like that one better.

If your Invicta is too heavy you could try it on a NATO strap. I have all of my watches in a rotation, I determine the interval and then when time is up I pick the next watch out of the rotation and wear it. If I don't want to wear the watch the entire duration of the interval I will wear it some and then wear some of my misc. watches for the rest of the time. That way everything gets worn. You could do something similar- wear the Invicta for a little while to honor the gift from your brother then put it back in the watch case and switch to something else.

(My limit in folding knives to carry is the ZT 0200, I bought one of those and decided it was just a bit too heavy for my likes. I was happy to carry a ZT 0561 at 5.8oz, or a Manix 2 at about 5 oz.)
