Watches that don't go on your wrist....

Good Day,

So last night, I was at work and this guy comes in wearing a watch around his neck, it was one of those fashion ones where the the watch is built into a thick piece of aluminum or like, shaped like a dog tag.

This gets me thinking.....

One of those would be cool, if it wasn't so stylish, maybe something a little more purposeful looking. Or maybe a pocketwatch.

Anyone familiar with small/tough non-traditional looking pockwatches or similar?

How about the Victorinox SAK that has a watch built into its' scales? That one is pretty cool.

You know, those dog tag watches seem to be aimed at kids, but I've always thought they were cool. You have a URL for them, by any chance? Or maybe a name brand to conduct a googol search on?

This is slightly off-topic, but related:

I've always preferred to wear my (normal style) watches on my belt instead of my wrist. (Or, in certain situations, attach the watch to my pack, or simply keep it packed.) Part of the reason is simply personal preference having to do with the fact that I find it vey uncomfortable to wear a watch on my wrist. I'm surprised that anybody puts up with it, but I know that people are different and some may really not find it bothersome. Perhaps more relevantly, many people are willing to experience extreme discomfort in the name of fashion. Anyway, the second reason I don't wear a watch on my wrist is that I find it to be patently problematic for a hard, outdoor-lifestyle kind of use.

Going even further off-topic: My favorite kind of watchbands are the ones available in surfing shops, which have one strap covered with double-sided velcro; and the other strap is V-shaped and covered with velcro. I find velcro more convenient, but most velcro straps either don't stay on well or are vastly oversized. The type with the double-sided V-shaped velcro straps are fast, secure, and no larger than a regular watch strap.

Joe-I do not have a name, unfortunately, but if you were to call your local high-end department store watch shop, I imagine they would know right off.

Evolute- I agree, a watch can be uncomfortable on the wrist.

Most of the time it´s not bothersome, actually, it basically disappears. Only if you have to reach to get somthing in a narrow place (more often than not between a wall and furniture).

I'm the same way. Jewelry of any kinda drives me absolutely bonkers. I can "feel" it on me all day -- it's like Chinese water torture. I don't even wear my wedding ring except when I'm out with my wife for this reason.

My real "watch" these days is my pager. I have one of the very tiny kind, it's about 1.75"x1"x.4", so it disappears when clipped on my belt, and it even fits in a watch pocket nicely.

They come off?

Jewelry does bother me a bit, but not as much as having my arm ripped off at the shoulder should I ever try and remove my wedding ring for any reason shy of a natural disaster on a citywide scale. Your Mileage May Vary

Got this watch when my Great Aunt died. She was one of the higest ranking WAVES during WWII. If you smoke (i.e: not PC) you will like this vintage Dunhill lighter/time piece...
