This version of Apocalypse on History tonight seems like it is stuffed full of scenes the theatre version didn't have. I mean, Marlon Brando gets major screen time in this one with his Kurtz character. He's reaaallllly damn good in it, too. Steals it completely away.

Within the last couple of years Coppola released 'Apocalypse Now Redux'. More Marlon, more Bobby Duval, more Playboy playmates and a hot French babe for Martin. This may be what your seeing.

Yup...true all that. I like it.

Redux was how he originally wanted to release the film, and the studio said no at the time.

The scenes on the French family’s plantation are very odd.

Am I correct in assuming that the boat that takes Sheen upriver is the same as the much talked about "Swift" boats that whatshisname was on?

Redux totally rocks! The movie finally made sense to me when I watched the redux version. And for the love of God, please don't bring John Kerry's name ( :barf: ) into this or any other thread.

I’m not sure that Redux making sense is such a good thing.

Heart Of Darkness is about a state of being, and too much logic and meaning takes away from the chaos and uncertainty.

I'd like to see the "Redux" version, more from an interst in films than a love of the movie or story.

Did anyone see the documentary, Hearts of Darkness about the making of Apocolypse Now? One of the best documentaries ever, and a must-see for any fans of the film.

I watched the tail end of the version on History last night, and I noticed two things different, those french legionaires/plantation which was very weird(like the whole movie), and that the airstrike on that freaky tribal firebase never happened in the end like it did in the screen version.

I can't say that I like movies like Apocalypse Now, and the "deer hunter", that attempt to portray Vietnam era servicemen as dopers, and just plain sociopathic weirdo's.

It just wasn't so. and for every unit that had bad leadership, there were 50 that had excellent leaders, and morale.:barf:

I enjoy war films a lot , but I have never liked Apocalypse Now , my ad took me to see it when I was a youth and I remember even then thinking what a off the wall film it was , not to mention drawn out. My two cents :D
I got to admit though I did watch it last night for about 30 minutes lol...

Spooky, I was half way through listening to "the End" when I logged on.
I've not seen Redux yet, I'll have to get it. :)

It's the rare war film that is just that, a war film. Most from Hollywood always seem to be anti-war films.

I'm a big Apocalypse Now fan. I agree, the Redux plantation scenes are a bit puzzling. Perhaps when I have twenty years to consider them, as I've had with the rest of the film, they'll make more sense.

For information, John Kerry was on a "Swift Boat" a Patrol Craft Fast (PCF) as opposed to the Apocalypse Now boat, a PBR (Patrol Boat River.) These pics are from a couple of Vet's sites memorializing the service of the brown water navy.

geezer. Have tried to watch the movie several times but a power nap manages to leave huge gaps. Was Brando a renegade officer with an indigenous army that also had some of his original troops ? Was he drug running there so close to Laos ? Once or twice I had a big blank & woke up to Duval loving to smell napalm in the morning.
Please don't ask me to buy the movie. I'm just starting about 8+ hours of WW II I received for Christmas.

Uncle [ out of sync ] Alan :D ;)

When you've got the time read Heart Of Darkness: it's easier to pick a book up and put it down than to go back to a film.
