I ran into a small horde of water-bottle style fanny packs at Goodwill the other day. I also found a 24oz stainless steel water bottle for $1.99. All have good PSK potential, especially with the steel container for a cook pot/boiler.

This one is an Ultimate Direction Solitaire fanny pack that goes for $35 at REI (or $1.99 at Goodwill-- minus the bottle). It is made to handle a 26oz bottle and any of the longer bike bottles work fine. You can just make out the ends of the 24oz bottle I put in the sleeve-- it carries the bottle horizontally.

It has a pouch on top of the water bottle that will carry a lot of small PSK items. I put a 12oz can of soda in there to give it some scale.

The bottle is a no-name 24oz single wall bottle in 18/10 stainless. The top is completely removeable so it does have potential as a boiler. Weight is 7.1oz-- just a little more than a 32oz Nalgene. I'd like to see a stainless bottle with a wide mouth like the Nalgene.

Here's another $1.99 Goodwill rig designed to take a bike bottle. There are zippered pockets on each side.

This rig is a Amphipod Full Tilt Trail model (who names these things???) that goes for (gulp) $44-- I parted with $3 to get it in a thrift store. It normally comes with a kidney shaped 20oz bottle, but the steel bottle fits. This one has good PSK potential as is has small pockets on each side and large one in the middle (I used the soda can for scale again). It also has a space between the bottle sleeve and the big pouch to put a windbreaker or other gear. A silnylon stuff sack with more PSK stuff could go there too.

Another type that would make a good PSK carrier is the type that carries two bottles. One could be steel and the other plastic, with storage in the pouch between an in one of the bottles too.
