Finally decided to take just the water bottle kit on a short hike.

The kit is a component of the dreaded Murse:

Front side of the Murse has bits of gear clipped to it:

The water bottle kit normally clips to the back:

Unclipped from the Murse, and a simple 1" webbing shoulder strap attached:

Then other bits from the Murse, like a camera, flashlight, GPS and Ham Radio are clipped on:

Then its off to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), with a 'dangerous water crossing' of Trout Creek just off the road:

The PCT wanders through some nice timbered terrain:

The destination for this hike was an overlook, Trout Creek Hill in the distance:

... and Trout Creek a few hundred feet below:

On the way back down, thought a cup of coffee would be just the thing, so grabbed a fuel tablet from the red 'Fuel Tablet Pouch,' and used a couple of rocks to hold the nesting titanium cup above the flame:

Convenient, nearby cup holder:

Oh and since this is Blade Forums; the obligatory knife pic:

Was a bit strange for me to hike with just the water bottle kit; I'm typically much more loaded down with gear.
Mind you my normal EDC stuff went on the stroll as well, including a couple flashlights, Leatherman, lock blade knife, Siegle SAR-4, contractor trash bag, etc. ...
The knife sheath pouch also has resources for fire starting and shelter building.
Did find myself taking things like the radio and camera off the bottle kit, and clipping 'em to my belt.

Still a work in progress.

Cheers,

Very cool. I grew up in the suburbs outside NYC and miss the hills/mountains.

South Florida has nothing for hiking (IMO) and certainly not for something like your area.

Did you rope up for the water crossing? :D

You must be the loudest thing on the trail with that pack setup haha

Very cool River 8! Still enjoying the pouch you made for my Siegle...I can never find enough to put in that thing it's so big :).

When I go out I always grab one small bag... and then add stuff to it and after all the other stuff is added it's like I am taking a full size bag. I should really try harder at only taking one smaller kit sometime.

River 8, Looks like a nice hiking cane, did you make it ? any more pic's of it? Thanks

Awesome photos and hike River-8! I'm assuming this is the trail off of FS 43?

I'd love to tag along with you one day to learn frm you skill/knowledge base and experience!!! Thanks for posting this.

Indeed off the 43 Road, you should join us one of these Sunday's, we meet at Noon in the EOC in Stevenson, and head out for some Trees-N-Quiet.
