Ive been wanting to get a Camelbak Omega reservoir 100oz to put into my Spec ops "The Pack". But doing some searching I ran across the MSR Hydration bag/hydration kit, which looks pretty darn good.

My question is, has anyone used both or just one and what are the pro's and cons of both if there are any? Ive been using 3 canteens on hikes and hate getting caught up on brush etc when moving through tight places, let alone trying to reach for them when on the move.

Thanks for any help you can provide..

P.S Here is a link to the MSR incase anyone is interested..

The dromedary bags are usefull but they weigh at least 3X times what a camelback does and you cant tell if it is clean or not because of its coated material construction.

It stick with a camelback or the like, they are tough pieces of kit.

I own and use regularly the Platypus and the Camelbak. The Camelbak is the superior product. I bought it because I wasn't satisfied the the Platypus. I gave serious consideration to the MSR, but but chose the Camelbak becuase I believed it to be better.

The connection where the hose screws onto the Platypus has a way of unscrewing itself, and has done this on several occasions, surprizing me with an empty, or almost empty water supply, once having very serious consequences as I was in a dry remote location. Over time, the Platypus reservoior will wear out and spring leaks at the seams. New and improved mouth peice, and hose connecters have eliminated leaks that were common on older models, but the new mouth piece still doesn't have nearly as a high a flow rate as the Camelbak one.

The Camelbak is far more durable, and because the hose is fixed to the reservoir, leaking from that point is a non issue. (However, sometimes it might be an advantage being able to disconnect the hose and use a regular cap on the reservoir, for example while transporting, or storing it full of water.) The only beef I have with the Camelbak is that once, it leaked from the Omega opening, even tightly screwed, I couldn't get a perfect seal. It never happened again, and I figured it must have had something to do with the weather. I called Camelbak, and they sent me (free) a new o-ring.

The reason I didn't go with the MSR is that I didn't like the look of the connection between the hose and the reservoir. It screws on like the Platypus, and didn't look all that substantial. But it might be, MSR make sound products.

I have used the customer service, and warrenty/repair of all three manufacturers, and they are excellent They stand behind their products 100% without hassel.

Camelbak claim you can drive over a full reservoir with a car without it breaking or leaking. Several outdoor magazines have tried this, and the Camelbak passed, but not the Platypus.

Thanks guys....

Years ago (about 6-7) I cant remember I bought a eagle hydration system, the thing I hated was the damn thing leaked all the time at the mouth piece. Since looking at the camelbak bladders and conversion kits, I noticed they have a shut off valve to add to the hose.

I can get the 100 oz Omega Hydrolink resevoir for 19.20 plus the kit that includes the HydroLink HydroLock and the HydroLink Bite Valve Adapter with Big Bite Valve for 6.50

WOW, Just got a email from ETS, That was quick....

Thank you for your inquiry. The Hydrolink reservoirs come with the Hydrolock and Big Bite Valve as seen in the picture. Please let me know if I may be of further service.

Looks like I will be getting this set up from ETS :D
