water cooled press quenching?

I got myself a couple peices of 2x2 aluminum and was going to rig up a woodworkers vice to make a quench press out of and was thinking (I know)!

What If I drilled a .75 hole through both peices lengthwise and tapped for fittings and worked it so it would remain at an even temperature with water to coll the plates more efficiently???

Do you think it would force the cooling a little??? could it make the press quench mor efficient??

Let me know your thoughts... especially those of you using the press quench meathod already.

Thanks.

If the aluminum blockes are 3/4"-1" thick there's no need for water cooling the blocks.

I was figuring that when you quenched the first one it would heat the aluminum a bit, the second would be a bit hotter and slower to cool, ect ect... I heat treat 10-12 blades at a time sometimes... doesnt pay to run an empty furnace!

Do you think there is enough passive cooling fo the aluminum to get a consistant quench??

Just ideas..:)

Alan,
Yes it will.
I have been doing it for 12 years.
I use 1.25 thick alum blocks and put two .75 holes through the blocks ... connect them and run a return Run a LG pump with water that is about 105 -115 deg f. Cold water can crack some materials.
Works great.
Happy Holidays!

Alan,
Just make yourself two sets if youre worried about the plates heating up. during the operation just alternate sets.
