I remember a loooong time ago, I was taught that there were certain vines you can obtain clean drinking water from. The one I'm familiar with has a very stringy, fibrous bark.
Can anyone identify that vine? I'm curious, since I took a short hike this morning and found the granddaddy of 'em all.
I've found these vines before, and have even procured small amounts of water just to see that it could be done. Out of all my time in the woods (admittedly not a whole helluva lot, but still), I've never seen such a vine more than maybe a 3" diameter.
As can be seen in the photos, this vine is MASSIVE. I couldn't wrap both hands around it, and looked about 5-6" in diameter in parts.
The base of the tree, plus my size 10 boot. The vine itself doesn't enter the ground here, but forms a 5' arc in the air and back down into the dirt.
The arc. My hand is on the vine.
The vine on the side of the tree. My CS Pocket Bushman for scale.
