I have a Lone Wolf Val-Matic that I use in the kitchen. I can easily take apart my plunge lock autos to clean and dry them but not the Val-Matic as I don't want to mess up the firing mechanism. If water gets underneath the scales can this cause rust? If I take off the top scale will moving parts start flying all over the place?

Have you tried to give Lone Wolf a call @ (503) 431-6777 in Oregon? I have the Diablo DA and there is no problem removing the scales. Nothing flies out. This is where I adjusted the pivot screw when new as I wanted the blade opening a little smoother in manual opening.

i made a new backspacer for mine so its not real hard to fully disassemble.
i say just remove the top scale and hit it up with WD or similar.

i was blown away by the build quality inside but the fit up of the scale to the liners could be better.

Thanks guys. I took mine apart tonight and cleaned it and I agree, this is a really well-built knife. On another note, I asked a reputable knifemaker if he could replace the G-10 scales on my Val-matic with giraffe bone scales and he said no problem, but after taking the knife apart I'm concerned that the bone might be too brittle and could chip when opening the knife in auto mode.
Any thoughts on using bone scales on this knife?

Yeah well there is a bit of force required to set her off.

I say too brittle in that application, how about some green canvas micarta?

Its gonna take some skilled mill work, wish i had a mill, bandsaw, belt grinder.......

If you do pimp it i want to see pics.
