so is this more practical than laser cutting? and more importantly less expensive. i got a quote on laser cutting some ATS34 for chefs knives... but it's kind of bogus. so are there any places that will cut water jet cut it for me? thanks

Micheal, You shouldn't have a problem finding someone to water jet cut your steel. Years ago I had about the strangest knife order and it was something I either needed to have done with a laser or a water jet. Took it to the laser place first since it was close to where I was working at the time. After 3 hours they managed one 1/4" hole. Water jet had no problem with it and it cost almost half the price of the laser. The steel was 1/4" ATS 34.

All the money Ive spent in the past on lazer and water cutting would have paid for a nice bandsaw. I finally got smart and bought one. ENCO has them for about $169 on sale. Get a good blade too while you are at it.
