Will my new rat 6 be good for use around water: IE- Kayaking and wasing entire knife after say, cleaning a deer? I would always wipe clean when done of course. How long does it take for rust to form? Also, are the micarta slabs and liners watertight? will I need to take them off if the knife is submerged?

PS: I lashed an old folding knife sheath to the front of my kydex. I am gonna put a small 3blade slipjoin and a smallsharpening stone for touch ups. I cant find one localy. Does anyone have a small stone they could send me around? preferrebly a fine stone, about 1 or 2 inchs long, width doesnt matter.

You can get some Arkansas pocket stones on the bay cheaply, just search for "pocket arkansas stone".

I'm under the impression that the area under the scales will be OK due to the blade coating. As far as washing is concerned, I wash mine down regularly with no ill effect.

I keep a small peice of rag saturated in oil in an altoids tin with me when I'm in the bush and I wipe the blade down with it regularly to fend off rust, but it's really not that big of a problem in the first place.

Moisture (creek water) in normal use doesn't pose a problem for me. A pantleg wipe down and back into the sheath has served well enough for any outings to date. I usually wipe things down once back at home to a clean state, but never had any rust issues so far.

I'd think that salt-water would be the only situation to have any real concerns with. I'm in Missouri so ocean outings are a bit off my beaten path.
