I would like to know what you leather sheath makers are using to seal your sheaths, I've been using tandys satin shene but have been thinking of going to neatsfoot oil for a little better water proofing, have any of you used it and whats your opinion on it. I don't care for the wax dipped sheaths there to hard, uncomfortable and painful when sitting. So I'm looking for something that will keep the leather fairly soft but waterproof it real well.

Thanks
Bill

Bill what about ,I think it`s call NoSnow Seal??
You can get it at WalMart.
I use it on my cowboy boots.

bill, i"ve been useing a product made by Fiebing's called Aussie leather conditioner, they make real good products,i found neetsfoot oil worked well, but softened the leather too much afor my liking

This is a receipe that works really well.
3 parts canning wax
1/2 part Liquid Gold
1 part neatsfoot oil
Heat mixture to 160 to 180 deg.
Soak sheath in it 3 to 5 minutes, drain and repeat aleast 3 times
This does make it stiff

What is Liquid Gold? I use a treatment very similar to this, just use beeswax instead of parrafin. But have never heard of Liquid Gold.
I am of the schooling that my sheaths are to protect the knife wearer from the very sharp edge and point of my knives, so I prefer them to be a little stiff, and haven't really had a problem with comfort while wearing them. My waxed sheaths aren't nearly as hard as kydex or the like, so they do flex a little. Plus I find that the stiffness helps lock the knife into the sheath, much like kydex does. I have had bad experiences with sheaths that were a little to soft.
I know many who do use sno-seal and like it.

Take a look at http://www.mtpitchblend.com/
I have tried their products and I think they will do what you want. I like it even more than Snow Seal or neatsfoot oil, or
all the other stuff I have experimented with through the years.
The pitch blend oil is probably what you are looking for.
Excellent stuff in my opinion.

Thanks guys, I'll give the sno-seal a try and see how it works, I will order a bottle pitch blend oil, Alex, and give it a try also for comparison.

Just my .02, I use pure neatsfoot oil. I've seen saddles, harnesses etc that were 50+ years old that were still in good shape after much hard use with only an occasional wipe down w/neatsfoot.

I use thompson's water seal. followed by a good coat of wax applied while the leather is warm.

How do you get oil out of a mink?
