Water Rat?

What henders an angler from using a current RAT knife?
How does the current line of RATCUTLERY knifes not serve an angler well?

+1

But I guess if they did make a "water specific RAT" it should be called the Nutria.

It works, but i think keeping rust at bay might be a problem when using it on the surf where its going to be in constant contact with salt water for 5+ hours.

I’d say that with special circumstances come specific care/ maintenance of your tools. There was just a thread a while back about rust prevention, removal and further care.

I use a stainless blade when going fishing or to the ocean. Gives you an excuse to buy another blade!
If you keep your RC blade wiped off after use there shouldn't be a problem.

i am in a postion where i expose my izula to salt water on a daily bases and with the proper previntive application of rem oil she has never seen rust. so i would say all of rats knives can be used in a wet enviroment with the proper care.

That's pretty good. I use to fish in Alaska and my stainless blades would rust. Everything would rust.

use tuf-cloth or marine tuf-cloth (for saltwater) you know that smell on a fresh rat (tuf-cloth I believe). I use my Izula when fishing and haven't had a problem with rust on the gulf coast! I just wipe with my tuf-cloth now & then and no prob.;)

aye I lived on the Gulf Coast and freedived with a 5.25 inch Kabar. I just whiped it dry and then ran over it with a silicone rag when I was done. Still looks factory new.

First, contrary to many believe, stainless steel rusts when exposed to salt water. I certainly know as I've seen it happen enough on my buck's. The only non-rusting knives are the Titanium blades, which generally suck for edge retention, and H1 (see spyderco's salt series which are great).

The RC-blades are coated and if you keep your coating in tact there really isn't much to go rust on you. You will get spots on the edge and possibly the logo but that is about it. I don't see why people agonize about rust on a coated blade. Stainless steel has no protection, and it WILL get rust spots in a marine environment. So you will have much larger surface area to maintain than a rat with its coating intact.

I use my RATS around the water and I live on the Oregon coast. It's all about the proper maintenance,no rust yet.

Yea man just keep it oiled up real good. RAT Cutlery is doin' some great things with 1095..... and if it ain't broke......
