water/stain proof treatments?

Ok, I'm curious about the best water/stain proofing treatments out there. I wish I could say this was for some ultra cool piece of gear or something, but it's for a new purse I bought the wife for valentine's day. It is a coated canvas material. Spray on aerosol is ideal, also it is white and other light colors so no color cast or soaking of colors would be best. I already tried going through the manufacturer but they only list cleaning instructions.

I've used a couple of the different ones for shoes from places like finish line with decent results, but otherwise have no idea what's out there. Stain proof is the biggest concern for this.

good old scotch guard gets my vote.

Atsco silicone water guard works well. I had to resort to the stuff because I couldn't find scotch guard anywhere. I'm glad I tried it. The overspray coated the lid of my BBQ and it's still beading water when it rains a year later.

Wait. It's coated canvas ... it's brand new ... and you want to coat it again already?

It's coated for printing, not for any real type of protection. I thought the same thing, but after looking at it closely and handling it a bit I realized it's going to need some more protection to keep it looking good.
