Do the Norton and Japanese Water Stones contribute something extra to the sharpening process, that cannot be obtained with DMT and Arkansas stones?

They cut much faster than Arkensaw and give similar finish or better. They cut slower than diamond but give a finer, less coarse finish in the higher grits. I like them. Years ago they caused me to sell my Arkensaw. I also like diamond but even the extra fine DMT stone is too coarse a final finish for me but others find it acceptabe.
