I read here and elsewhere some plastics are not so good for starage of water, re-using bottled water bottles and similar (plastic juice and milk bottles) are not good I hear. So what are BAD containers for water storage and what are GOOD containers?

Also is there certain TIME LIMIT for storage of water before it is bad? (in dry cool cupboard, in freezer?)
Thank you
Martin

no replys??? i've seen information here before but some reason I can't find it with the search engine...........

Other than stainless steel or titanium .For plastics the best are probably polycarbonate or high density polyethylene.Food grade plastics are not the same as ordinary plastics.Storage life is going to depend on the water thats put into it and if the container is sterile. Refrigerated is much better, freezer is better yet but I couldn't give you times.

I know there'd been threads here about water storage before.

IIRC, if filling with tap, best to hit with cholox (regular) or the MicroPur tabs for long term.

IMHO, reusing milk/juice jugs for water should be only done for non-drinking water (toilet, etc) because of cleaning/sterilization issues of foodstuffs.

I re-use water (distilled) bottles filled with tap and rotate them every 7-9 months.

I know Frugal Squirrel has a lot of info about this.
