Had my prep pay off yesterday. Who else is dealing with this situation in the Boston Area?

What happened? It's always good to have several cases of bottled water as well as some bulk potable water stored. Good planning:thumbup:

water main I think. over 200,000 people without clean water. I am just west of the line of towns that must boil their water.

2,000,000 people under a boil water order. Basically the main pipe that carries water broke at a branch point so north and south of Boston as well as the City itself are using backup reservoir systems. This water is untreated at the moment. When I got the call about the system, I knew I was all set for at least a week. When I saw the magnitude of the break, I quickly started preparations for longer. I boiled about another week's worth of water last evening and this morning, and my fiance was able to quickly purchase an additional week before people started fighting over it. Both drug stores nearby our apt ran out of water very quickly and violence was only averted due to the quick response of police. You can check out the communities affected at www.mwra.com. The issue is, the city itself (I don't live in the city, but inside the metro area) I can see people being totally unprepared for this, and it is warmer here today than it has been in quite a while. Boiling water indoors is going to add heat to homes and apartments and make people that much more cranky. We are planning to continue to boil water so we don't have to break into our finite supply. Its a good reminder as to why we prepare - and a reminder to my fiance that my paranoia has occasional value ;)

It's always good when you get that chance to be seen as having some sense instead of just being "paranoid" isn't it.

Hope they get it straightened out soon.

I just want to say, boiling water sucks when its over 80 degrees and already humid. Not only does it heat the house further, but the water itself take a while to cool down. I am committed though not to cut into the finite supply unless i have to.
