WOW! Indiana is now going through its worst flood EVER! At first they were comparing it to the great flood of 1913, but now we have surpassed that! Over the course of Friday night, Saturday morning, we got 10 1/2 inches of rain. The creeks & rivers were already under lots of stress due to storms & tornadoes earlier in the week.
Chuck & I were sitting in a Japanese restaurant on Sat. eve and a lady came running in saying her house was flooded and that the water was coming -- NOW!! Holy Crap, Batman, she was right! The evacuation of northern Columbus had began. We immediately left the restaurant, and couldn't go fast enough. The waters had already reached several fast food restaurants, crossed the highway and closed two of the main roads in town. We made our way home, and turned on the news.
Within the next two hours, we heard that the ENTIRE hospital had to be evacuated due to flooding in the basement & first floor. Patients were taken by helicopter to hospitals in surrounding counties. We now know that the hospital will be closed for months to clean up and repair all the damage. There was lots of equipment, a lab, and the hospital pharmacy in the basement. Helicopters were going all night!
Later we decided to go put gas in the truck, just in case. On the main street in town, we drove through about 18" of water. Sure glad the truck made it!
We didn't have to evacuate, but almost wish we did. Most of the city was without power. Ours was out for about 8 hours, and when it is about 90 degrees & 90% humidity, it can get really hot when the central air goes out! Fortunately, power was restored about 4:30 a.m. & I was finally able to rest.
Chuck & I had to go to pharmacy this morning, and just couldn't believe what we saw. The town looks like a war zone. They said there was 4" standing water in the CVS most of the night. The carpets were just saturated and very muddy. I think most of the town was that way today! We have to boil our water until further notice. What fun! There is no longer any ICE or bottled water availabe in the city.... :( Maybe tomorrow!

A friend of mine said that in water in the neighborhood street was chest high & water in the houses was up to counter tops. OMG!! The clean up around here is going to be terrible.

Sorry to go ON & ON -- just want you all to know that Chuck & I are A.O.K.
We have food, water, air conditioning...even ice cream. (and Beer & INFI of course!!)

There are still 23 counties in Indiana under state of emergency, and more flooding. Please keep us in your prayers. (For photos & video, you can go to WTHR.com which is the Indianapolis TV station web site)

Thanks everyone!!

Yeah, Chicagoland is in for some big storms tonight...according to weather reports.

Rain just hit....hold on to your hats.....

.

According to "The Weather Channel" Chicago area is up for a big storm, which could tomorrow bring us up to 3 more inches of rain..... Just what we need!!

I live farther south (just across the Ohio from Louisville). It hit pretty hard in places as close as 50 miles north, but we got nothing, not even a little rain.

I lost power for a couple days during the summer a few years ago. It wasn't terribly humid at the time, but it was hot enough. I took a bath sheet and soaked it in cold tap water, then slept with it laying over me and the windows open so that evaporation provided some cooling -- my bed got a bit damp, but I was sweating enough so that was going to happen anyway. At least that way I was less miserable and got some sleep that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Consider yourself blessed! The flood waters were 3-4 blocks from our house!

Stay safe guys. We live several hundred yards from a river. Luckily we are on pretty high ground, but who knows how long that will be high enough. We've been real lucky here in the past. but I am going to buy flood insurance as soon as I can (the rates ought to be great ) and invest in a pallet of unfilled sand bags so I can fortify my area. I want to try and get some pics of the river tomorrow or Tuesday. it is a few feet from coming out of a farmers field down the road and covering the State Route that runs by my house. Dang, now I am making myself nervous.

Yikes! Glad that both Chuck and you are fine there Barb! Hopefully the worst of it has passed and you can get on to enjoying a nice summer.

Great meeting up with the two of you at Blade!

this is why its good to stock up on food and water, zombies dont have to attack for it to be needed.

Wow! Hearing the same from other friends/family in the region, sounds like the weather in some places has gone just nuts this year! You guys stay dry, keep your infi sharp and watch the skies! Glad to hear you are OK!

Barb,
Gald to hear that you and Chuck made it through OK. I have some in laws that got hit pretty bad in the area and sounds like more may be coming. Hope everyone stays high and dry. You guys will remain in my prayers.

Stay Safe,
Garth

Glad you guys make it through in one piece.... I'll be glad to store your infi for you :D
