How does everyone carry there water in the wilderness, canteen on belt, water bladder, water bottle?

Depends on where I am and how long I'll be out. I have liter sized bottles (pepsi) with carriers for shoulder carry, quart canteens for the belt and shoulder. Bota bags in both liter and 2 liter sizes and a 1 gallon carrier with leather strap. Duct tape is wrapped around both 1 liter bottles and the gallon bottle.

I like to use water bladders combined with bottles. when my bottles are empty I fill them out of my water bladder. Sometimes when hiking in places with creeks everywhere, I will start out with a bottle and nothing else. Then I use my water filter with some anti-bacterial drops to keep filling the bottle over and over.

Short hikes - 32oz Nalgene Bottle, coupled with some iodine tablets.

Mountain Hunting, Longer hikes, or hikes with no known water - 100oz hydration pack and a katadyn filter backed up with some iodine tablets.

Sometimes I also carry a GI Canteen, Cup and Stove... sometimes I carry a 2qt GI canteen.... all depends on what I'm doing, where I'm going, how I'm loaded and what the country's like.

I carry a 1 quart US Army canteen with cup and stove sleeve. This also carries Potable Aqua and a yellow mini-bic lighter in the pouch. Since this is not enough carrying capacity I usually carry a two-liter playtpus bag and a smaller one liter platypus as well. In dry season I'll up that to two or three of the two liter bags due to the desert-like conditions. I only carry the bags full when necessary.

I also carry a Galão de Emeregência. This is a 5 liter plastic bag that is designed to carry gasoline back to the car. They are shaped like a jerry can but roll flat. I keep one of these on had to cache water or for emergency storage/carry/collection.

I carry a 1 quart US army with cup and stove backed up with a soft MSR water bag (5 liters) in my backpack. Nalegene lexan bottles are great too! they fit the MSR water work filter great.

Depends on how long. Most of the time I carry two 20 oz with me. On longer hikes I carry my bladder in my backpack and two bottles.

For a quick hike I use the GI canteen/cup/stove/iodone tabs (with a spoon tucked inside the carrier), on longer hikes I use a bladder (Camelbak). if I need additional supplies (desert) I add 1 to 3 soft botas.
Enjoy!

My favorite combo is a Snow Peak 700 Ti Cup with a 32oz Nalgene Bottle, nestled inside. This set-up then fits nicely in one of the side pockets of my Mountain Hardware swift lumber pack.
