Waterproof Storage Boxes

I recently purchased an Otter Box 1000 from Tad Gear and was immediately surprised when I received it. The first thing I thought was that this thing is indestructible! And it's waterproof! The new matte black finish sealed the deal for me. These are great looking boxes. I'll have a fun filling this up.

I have now ordered another 1000, two 2000s, and two 2500s. I will probably use them for survival kit/first aid kit/miscellaneous storage boxes. Anyone else use an Otter Box (or similar container) for a survival kit/first aid kit? I'd like to see some picks of what you included in your kits if you do.

I know Pelican makes pretty good waterproof storage boxes but I have never handled one. How do Pelican and Otter compare to each other? Are there other waterproof boxes being manufactured that are similar to Otter and Pelican boxes? I searched the forums but didn't come up with a lot of info so maybe this thread will help shed some light on the subject.

I bought a 1000 about 4-5 years ago. I always store valuables that I don't want damaged during fishing trips, or at the beach. It's still in top shape. I bought a 2000 a few years ago for larger items and use it for longer trips (mostly for storing batteries).

Great products!

Does anyone know of a thinner variant? I have been looking for a sealed box in the 4"x6" range that is less than 1" thick. Can anyone point me to a likely candidate?

Have my work stuff in an ammo box... pretty much indestructable.

And 1/2 the ppl at work can't figure out how to open it either :D.

Aquasaf bags are thinner than one inch, although they are not rigid. Witz boxes minght fill your needs too.

Do the Otter boxes have pick n' pluck foam inserts for them?

The 2000 is foam lined, but not the pick n' pluck stuff. The 1000 isn't lined at all.

I also have a Witz case. It's about the same thickness of the 1000, but contains more, as the plastic is thinner. There are some really thin Witz cases available. My only complaint with them is that the latch is easy to accidently open, as opposed to the almost bombproof Otter box latch. I always wrap 5-6 rubber bands around my Witz to prevent accidental opening.

I'd like to see one that was 1/2 the size of the Otter 1000 or even smaller. Still, both Otter and pelican make great stuff in any size. I picked up a big Pelican case with wheels and retractable handle for the Blade Show this year and it was fantastic.
