I wanted to let you folks in on a great blade for the kitchen. The price was very reasonable, and I can highly recommend this gorgeous knife.:)
It is a small chef knife in 1084, and is the sharpest thing I've had around here forever.
Here are the specs. The original sales thread is at the bottom, and I've included some extra pics that I took tonite when we sliced up a tomato. My wife took the first use(her gift) and said ..."OH!" and then let me use it also.
It almost falls thru the tomato under the weight of the blade...it's that good. Wonderful.

0.130" Aldo's 1084 double tempered and tested @ 62 HRC,
Bamboo handle finished to 600x sealed, waxed and brass hardware
Full flat Grind
5 1/4" length blade
1 7/8" height
0.011" behind the edge finished on 4K stone and stropped
10" overall.

No sheath with this one, but that would seem to be the part that is easily fixed...lots of folks make sheaths.

thanks for the review. I was eyeing that for a long time....if the maker made those in AEB-L, I'd have grabbed it. I don't mind carbon steel since I use my kitchen knives everyday and sharpen at least once a week, I'd like to bring that out for camping and stainless is a must.

Good score!

...and NOW for the other side of the story, as some commentators used to say...
My wife cut some more tomatoes, and said "WHYYYYY does this stink so much?"
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell her about that part.
So I tried to explain patina, and this morning I took care of it. I threw everything at it, including the kitchen sink. My wife thinks it's pretty and now it doesn't stink any more. I like it also.

I bought a Large Trailing Point HunterSlicer from Matt at WaterStone Blades, also with a bamboo handle but with a CPM 154 blade and it is a great slicer. If you wanted a chef's knife like this, but not in carbon steel, pretty sure Matt would do one for you. John

I was just informed that I had left out the second "t" in Waterstone in the title. I've corrected it.
My wife was just using the knife today to cut tomatoes (again?) and she loves it.
I do also. It's a great chopper for veggies, and I cut through cold beef roast last nite with thin slices without worrying about my fingers gets sliced. Very good control through a tough beef roast and slicing it on the edge. Yes, it's a fine knife.
Now, I'm thinking about asking Matt if he can do his magic with paring knives. Possibly even stainless this time, as these would go to daughter(s) who might not have full appreciation for patinas... :)
Happy New Year, Matt, and also to your friend Will, who clued me in about my spelling error...

Thanks for the review Don! Also to others for the kind comments. Don send me a email and we can discuss a future project.
