Waterstones and recurves?

I bought a cheap pocket water stone set and love them, but one of my main knives is a BM710. The stones don't fit the recurve but I was thinking that I could just use the stones on edge after rounding the one edge out a bit. Good idea or bad idea? will the stones edges be consistant and will using them on edge ruin them?
I bought the cheap stones for 2 reasons, 1) to try out waterstones with little expense, and 2) if I liked them and decided to buy good stones the cheap ones could go into my backpack for field uses.

Obviously I like using waterstones better and am planning on picking up a couple Norton combo stones for home use,a 220/1000 and a 4000/8000 to start.

Just because the link doesn't say who makes the stones they are Sun Tiger deluxe water stones

PS: I wont be using the edges of the nortons on the 710
