Hello,

Is the shapton pro 1k finer than a
Icebear king 1000 grit stone? I have
read that the shapton pro 1k is like
800 grit in USA standards. I already have
a king 1k. Before I bought the king I read
online that it produced the same finish as a
soft Arkansas. I disagree a soft ark will put
a much more refined edge compared to king 1K.
any thoughts before I purchase the shapton 1k?

The Shapton is compete different from the king. Yes, it's slightly coarser but it's not huge. Shapton grades their stones in Mesh which is a different form of abrasive measurement and leans to the coarser side.

The biggest difference you will see is the hardness, you will not gouge a Pro 1k like you would softer stones. The hardness and speed of the stone might first make you think it's much coarser when in reality it's just a better 1000 grit stone. If the need for a new 1k is not completely necessary then I might recommend the Pro 2k to start.
