Does anyone know if waveless CQC14's were or are made? If not - does anyone know who can do a wave removal on one of these knives?

14s only come waved. you might be able to get a custom piece with no wave but not the production 14.

Wave removal is not a big deal, if you dont want to do it your self getting some one like STR to do it is the way forward. I would also strip the blade coating off as you will have exposed metal at the area where the wave was. This may or may not annoy you but it sure annoys me :)

Im thinking about de-waving my 12 as it seems to get in the way more than i use it. It would be nice if a number of non waved versians were made of his production knives but that would be a bit of a hastle for EKI so its not going to happen.
I do much prefer my non-waved CQC8 to the waved one i have.

Does the Wave get in the way or don't you like the looks? My first 7 did not have the Wave but my HD does and I like it. I only use it when I have to. A friend actually took the thumb stud off his HD and uses his thumb on the Wave to open the knife.

The wave physically gets in the way for me. I hardly ever actually wave the 12 so its virtually redundant any way.
It dosnt look too bad, it does mess with the lines a bit but its a feature of EKI knives so i can live with it and im more than used to it now any way:).

I would much rather have the thumb disc and no wave than vice versa though. The thumb disc is actually one of the reasons i stuck with EKIs. I find its one of the better openers along with the hole on my other favorite knives ;)

I find the wave is better on the smaller knives but does tend to get in the way on the bigger knives. The 8 as i said is better with out it, the Persian dosnt have it and just wouldnt look right with it any way and the 12, 10 etc could probably do with out it (IMO)
The bigger knives open so easily with a flick of the wrist i really feel its just not needed on them all.

Thanks, Hazie! For once, you make sense!! lol. Thanks for the reply.

In order to avoid the worst and most likely fate of a pocket knife ( in my experience) - loosing the damm thing! I always return the knife to my watch pocket when I'm done using it. Have ended up cutting the bottom out of the watch pocket in my jeans to accomidate longer folders - but the wave would get hooked on the way out pretty much every time - useful feature/function for some - PIA for me.

It would be nice if there was even a limited run of non-waved production knives made

if ya dont like the wave (and i have never understood why anyone wouldnt FWIW) a few minutes with a dremel should solve the problem.

i can rememeber a few yrs back when folks complained about the ones that were not waved.

personally i prefer it on most of the EKI line, though it doesnt look right on some (ie the I&I tanto, P-Tac, etc) but its always been a plus for me.

i dont think there would be enough demand to justify a run of non -waved waved models but ya never know.

I do believe Ernie stated that the Wave will be standard now on his knives due to the demand for it. For those who don't like the Wave, I agree with the Dremel route!

It can be done. I've done that to two 14s of my own. You can see one of my Waveless ones here at the link below beside a Waved one in this thread where I turned one into a frame lock and redesigned the handle. This one is one of the CQC14 knives owned by the guy who originally put the idea for the concept in Ernie's ear. Personally I go in and out on the Wave like dislike thing but I will say I carry the Waveless version of my 14 far more than the Waved one in this folder.

I like being able to comfortably get my thumb on the spine and really lean into a cut if I have to and the Wave made that difficult to do at times. I also have a lot of trouble making the Wave deploy as successfully on the 14 as I do on other models so even though I know its just me I did not miss the Wave at all once I took it off the first one. Still, I have other models I would not dream of taking the Wave off of and still others that were not Waved that I Waved myself like my 99 SpecWarA which is one of the easiest Waving folders you could ever imagine.

You will have to strip the entire blade to do this as has been pointed out due to the cutting off of the Wave exposing bare metal. Its the only way you can do it so you can match up the finish. And of course if you do this the warranty is void. So be advised if thats important to you you'll lose it the moment you cut into it.

I like the wave on most of my EKIs but it just seems to get in the way on my 12.
I think il de-wave my user 12 and send it to TK for a revamp that way it will be ass kickingly sweet and il still have my minty fresh 12 for keep sake.

STR- Those 14s look real sweet, the waveless one does have nice lines
