I am new to using Emerson Knives with the wave, so could someone please give me some advice on how to use the wave??
i recall that a couple of months ago, i saw a mpeg file which showed the deployment technique of a Commander using the wave.
could someone kindly teach me the technique or point me in the direction of any website that has that video clip?
!!thanks!! in advance

Hello Lin,

Welcome. Hey u r from Singapore huh, I am from Penang. Now I live in nyc. The commander and most of the knives are made for right handers now. The knife is worn in the pocket tip up. When you draw the knife from your pocket the wave hooks on to the pocket seam and draws the blade to an open locked position. Pretty cool. And most people jump when they see it. Don't do it around cops. If you need a fast knife or just want something different then the Commander, SOFCK, SARK,CQC7 with wave is for you. Hope this helps.

What exactly is the wave?

Wave - The wave is a patented feature that allows the knife to be opened as it's drawn from the pocket. This is the fastest method of deploying a folder that I am aware of. It is located directly to the rear of the thumb disk and resembles a wave or hook. As the knife is drawn to the rear, the wave engages the edge of the pocket, opening the knife as it is drawn.

JOHN!!! YOU"RE DA MAN!!!
that is the "video" thing i was talking about.....should have guessed that it was from you...the emerson man....

ancient sul, i heard you visited the recent knife show....how was it??
and do any of you have any idea where i can get an EMERSON CQC9 (eagle)??
i am very interested in getting one of these for myself..
i am relative new to collecting emersons..

John, could you try to do a video clip of yourself opening the sark?? cos I feel that the sark is harder to open then the commander, as the commander kinda has a heavier blade....making deploying the waved commander easier then deploying its sark counterpart
also, I just found out something...
you know the screw pivot for tightening/loosening the blade tension, if you wanted to loosen the screw but didn't to leave behind those "screw-scratches"..you could use a card such as an old credit card, or something of the same thickness..that's what I have been using on my commander and now on my sark...

Hey guys

I can't take credit for the gif. It was made by the folks at Tactical Blade. I was allowed to put it in the Gallery and use it when ever someone asks how the wave works. They did a pretty good job!

I actually find the SARK to be easier to draw then the Commander. The wave sits much higher and it SNAPS out. I find the SOCFK and the Commander about the same.

As to the pivot, I have a set of gunsmithing screw drivers. There is a wide selection and you simply select the correct sized bit for the screw. No problem buggering up the screws.

John, can i ask you a question??
how many emersons do you have??
and also, if in the future, i were to get anyone of my emersons scratched or chipped, could emerson refurbish the knife for me??
and if so, at what cost??

They will be happy to try to help you out should you chip a blade. It will cost you return postage. Normally this is $10US, but in your case, you would have to call or email first.

Finish, no. Not to the best of my knowledge. It would be cost prohibitive.

John

Thanks John for the replies...
in that case since emerson would not refinish the blade, where can i get it refinished??
if i were to badly scratch the BT coating, whom could i turn to to have it reBTed to have the BT layer removed and have the blade satin finished??

Linjunpei: Concerning your plea for a Emerson Custom CQC9, I'd have to advise you that you could consider yourself extremely fortunate to find one for sale.

This is a rare bird, and I purchased the only one that I have ever known to be for sale, and it came back to the United States from overseas. Good Luck

P.S. I like your signature.

Sniper308, where did you purchase yours?? from a dealer or from a private collector??
could you tell me where i can locate one or more of these birds??(presuming you wouldn't be so kind as to sell it to me??)(a presumtion of course)"wink"

btw,how much did you pay for yours??

Lin,

U have heard from the other forumites. The custom Emersons are hard to find. Especially the 5, 8 and 9. There aren't that many out there. So if u are lucky to see one up for sale and u can afford it get it.

As for refurburshing a blade. It would cost too much. Personally, I don't like coated blades. I much prefer a satin finish. But since we can I carry the hard chromed plain edged commander. Humm I got to get my hands on a SARK. I got the rest of the Emersons with the wave but no SARK yet.

AncientSUL, the SARK is a good knife.
however i am thinkning of having mine "customised" in the sense that having mine refitted with ivory scales and anodized titanium bolsters...
i think that would make it look much better.

now these are the knives i am trying to locate down:
CQC9
ESM
98 COMMANDER

Good luck on finding a CQC9, I rally don't think it's going to happen.

But never say never.

As to the finish. If your handy you can buy finishing products from different sources, including a teflon coating. I have never tryed it myself, but have been told thier fairly easy. Brownells sells many such finishing products.

Our own DavidT described how to do your own Satin finish and showed pictures of his BM CQC7 that he had done in his spare time.

Kevin Robinson is one source for customization here on the forums, Bill Siegle is another. Both thier work can be found here on the forum (including a bolstered CQC7 from Kevin and the Pirella Commander and PSARK from Bill)

There is another guy out there that is doing wonderous things with Microtech LCCs, including MOP scales, Ivory scales, Horn scales, Micarta scales, Anodizing, Satin finishes, High Polish finishes, ect. Names David Brunner.

John

John, i got into contact with David Brunner
and i am now trying to get some cash and get my SARK customised by him. what do you think? do you think the Sark would look good with anodized titanium bolsters, and carbon fibre scales?
do give me any suggestions on how it would look best...
also, i have seen the P-SARK done by Bill....it was a WOW piece.
how much does Bill charge for that kind of work?
thanks!

Lin,

My advice is not to spend too much customiszing a production piece. And if u r going to customize the SARK go for one with the Chrome finish. Yes they are available. I saw them a month ago at Knife Outlet. I wish they have the plain edge one out too. That would look so much better.
Maybe they could buy the knife and customize it here for u then ship it to u instead of you shipping it here, getting it done then ship it back to u again. That is a lot of money on shipping. Just a thought.

AncientSUL, what you said about having it customized before delivery makes sense. I will do just that the next time I plan on getting a customized knife.
However now since I have already gotten the knife, I will have to have it sent back to US again. Btw, what chrome finishing do you mean??
you mean as in i should get the production SARK with a chrome finish, or i should have my SARK (BT coated) finished with chrome??

EKI offered both a Black-T SARK and a "Satin" version. The Satin version has a Hard Chromed finish. Our own Ed Moses owns both

John

Oh I see...
the one I have is the BT coated one. I don't know why, but I have this fascination for black blades.
I think I will get my BT SARK customized, then get my local dealer to help me bring in a satin-sark.

In that way i will have the best of both worlds.

Btw, thanks to all of you, i have finally mastered the art of opening an EMERSON® WAVED Knife, and I can now "wave" my knife in front of my friends when I want to show them...
