OK- finally got my first Emerson - a CQC-14. A very nice used user - lots of miles and years left on it.No way to dance around this - for me - the wave's a pain in the ^%$. I have been parking my folders in my watch pocket for years - not going to change this -wave opens real well even when I don't want it to when drawn from this pocket.S0 - how do I remove the wave? Does Emerson offer wavectomies for a charge? If not - is this a reasonable thing to attempt with a dremel tool?
Rest of this tool is very much on the mark. Grips are pretty much what you want - big enough to put some muscle into - not slippery - but also not sharp or sandpaper rough.Comfortable to use - a big deal for a tool you're going to cut something with several times a day. Short blades going to take a little time to get used to - took me a while to get used to 3" blades after years of users with longer blades.Really like the disc - very easy to get hold of - reasonably useful left handed. This baby has been used a bit and is still very stiff to open - also - no blade play - these two characteristics are probably interrelated.

opening will get smoother with age. or you can loosen the pivot slightly.

dremel the wave? i dont see why not. although a dremel spins pretty fast, and may affect the heat treat. a belt sander on low might be a better option.

i dont think eki does mods.

if ya dont like the wave dremel it off, just dont get it real hot.

IIRC EKI wont warranty modd'ed knives, i dont know if they would consider this a mod though or not, i guess probably not on second thought.

some folks cant get it when it comes to waving EKI's and some cant keep from waving them,. go figure lol................

me?? never had a problem waving them when i wanted OR not waving them when i didnt.

Iv taken the wave off a couple of knives.

Iv typicaly found that most of the wave part is soft enough to just file off.
You can then clean it up on a belt sander, bench grinder or a dremel.
As already stated you dont want things to get too hot or you could draw the temper on part of the blade so just be carefull and take your time.

Herer is one of my 12s that I de-waved.
I actually prefer this knife with out the wave but i do still like to play with my waved one now and then :p:thumbup:

Took my time so as not to dump too much heat into blade - but a Dremel cut off wheel removed the Wave and then ground edges smooth from where the wave had been.Unlike high speed grinding the edge - where building up heat at the cutting edge is really not a good idea -I think you'd have to work at it to put enough heat into the top thick part of the blade to have any effect on tempering/heat treat that would effect the function of the knife.
Big thing is this - really, really like the de-waved CQC-14 - this has become my EDU -looking for another one as a back up against loss or breakage.
While I would highly recommend this mod for pocket carrying a Emerson folder - YOU WILL HAVE NO WARRANTY FROM EMERSON. This is fair - but be very sure that your particular knife is in perfect operating condition before you do this.If you're not sure about any of this - try one of the skilled knife mechanics as your substitute hands for this project.
