Decided to wave mod my Spyderco Paramilitary 2

It was easy and works 100%... enjoy!

Looks good, and if it works, that's what matters... but I'd definitely at least round the transition from the hole to the cut, if not get rid of the spyder and take it down further...

I'd like to keep the logo... so far it has worked 100% and I must have done it 50+ times today

The only concern would be structural strength. The blade is now connected to the tang at thinner section and might not handle lateral stress as well as before. This is with assumption that waving = fast deployment = for SD purpose. For normal slicing & cutting it should definitely have no problem.

BTW, what tools did you use? It's hardened steel there ;)

dremel cut off wheel

yea... if i snap it off on a bone in self defense then it just wasn't my day.

plus.. i usually carry a gun

i keep wondering why everybody on there wants to cut the blade in half for this purpose while something like this

is more than enough, 100% effective and let you keep a normal looking knife ...

just a thought ...

ps picture courtesy of a french knifemaker. it's his personnal knife. hope he doesn't mind.

Not frowning on the OPs job...if it works for you and you like it...that is all that matters! I just like to retain the hole for the versatility it offers.

nope. he did this. very nice job btw including the finish of the cutout :thumbup:

is it possible to ruin the knife's tempering or heat treat and whatnot with a cutoff wheel if you wanted to take more off ( thinking of my own mod project ) how would you know when its to hot? does it matter on the spine? i assume it would travel to the edge being as the edge is thinner

If you can't touch it with your bare hand, its too hot.

To the OP, nice wave mod. I waved my Byrd Cara cara, not the cleanest job, but it work 100%.
