First, thank you to the responses in my other thread.
I had originally planned on going with the new Buck Pro Vantage Small in S30V once I reached my goal weight. (My nice wifey has promised me a gift!) Anyway, I'm not 100% thrilled with the construction strength from what I saw in one of the threads on the Buck sub-forum.
That being the case, I've decided to move back to Spyderco...maybe. I have a combo edge Delica 3 that I was fortunate enough to win in a giveaway, and I really like that knife size. (So does my 12 yr old son.) So, I'm torn between
1) a waved Delica 4 in VG10
2) a Salt 1 which is the same in shape and size
3) a Delica 4 in ZDP189
My thought process is that I would like a waved blade for walking the dog, etc. I'm in an urban setting, and I used to own an Emerson Commander; so, I know just how fast these things deploy. BUT It comes in VG-10 only.
Next up, the Salt. I don't do a lot of fishing, but I am a humid guy, if you get my drift. Plus, from what I read the edge work hardens and can get above 60 rc just by using it. That might be enough to knock the ZDP189 out of the running. Not sure if it is tougher or not, but I would think that would it be.
But, the ZDP189 is a steel that I don't have, and have read great things about. I am a steel snob. Also, I'm not at all abusive with my knives and don't use them except for everyday piddly things. It would need stropped once a month with me. It's stain-less, right?
So, my end all be all would be a wave Salt 1 once it's work hardened. Any such animal?
And what am I missing...other than a Sebenza.
Oh, and I use DMT Aligner, so I'm not worried about sharpening any of these.
