Stupid is when you choose not to ask about something you want or need knowledge on.
Regarding Emersons, the wave you're referring to is the small hook-like protrudence right behind the thumb disc. It gives you the option of instantly opening the blade as you remove the knife from your pocket. The little hook catches on the top of your pocket and pulls the blade open in the blink of an eye.
Pretty cool feature. Gotta practice it a bit though, and it can be hell on your pants.
