I have an old Delica that I'd like to try to cut the "wave" feature into.

What tools will I need for this DIY project? I have a Dremel and I'm not afraid to use it :D

Any tips appreciated.

Dremel with cutting wheel, grab a fine file to take out any incurring scratches , some 600 grit paper to finish her off unless you want to go finer.

Envision where you want you wave.
Grab a fine tip marker and mark where you plan to cut, use a permanent marker. Grab a paper towel , soak in cold water and try to wrap around blade area you are not cutting at , to help keep blade cool , it should not get that hot anyway but just to be safe , if it's too hot to touch back off and let it cool.
Cut your drawn lines and then finish the cuts.

Post pics afterwards please. :D

late edit.

I should have typed , do not let it get too hot to touch , instead of "if it gets too hot to touch".

Good luck.

I have waved my own Delica and Endura with a Dremel. rebeltf has it about right. Go slowly--you can't put back what you remove. The waves I did myself were cut all the way through the Spyderhole, and they work just fine. However, since I did this work, Spyderco came out with their own waves, and they make a wave that's more like a groove just in front of the hole. Apparently, Mr. Glesser doesn't like the hole cut into, as it may compromise the integrity of the blade.

Since learning this, I've purchased a couple of the factory waved Spydercos, and I've waved my Manix in that manner. They work fine. Not long ago, I embarked on creating my "Dream Police" model. This included a tip-up, ambidextrous conversion, which I contracted Chase Axin to do, a lanyard hole, also by Mr. Axin, and a waved blade. The waving and new pocket clip was done by STR, who posts often on these forums. The result is a Police model that can be drawn into Pikal mode. This is a style of knife combat as popularized by S'Narc on the Self-Defense Forum, and more recently on the Total Protection Interactive Forum. The final version of the knife appears on the thread in our own Spyderco forum here, in the thread titled "Convince me to buy a Police," in post #17. Alas, I can't seem to provide the link.

Good luck, and do post pictures afterward.

That's exactly how I was going to cut mine. The top portion of the hole is already a pre-fab wave. Do you have any pics of those knives?

Do you think it compromises the intergrity of the blade?

Thanks.
