Waving an AFCK

I was thinking of doing this and wondered if anyone had tried it. I've seen some work on Spyderco knives, but havent seen anything on BM's in terms of pictures. I'd most likely use a Dremel with cut off wheels, rather than just sanding down the metal, as was done on the Spyderco's. I dont have a sander that would do that in less than 4 hours.

i presume ya mean the axis AFCK, the 800 is a tip down, wont work unless ya change that, ya can put a small wire tie in the hole of a axis AFCK, trim it, and it will wave pretty well, also have seen them dremeled, some looked good, some didnt.

Thats exactly the effect I was trying to avoid. I'd seen that before and I'm just planning on taking out enough to curve up to the beginning of the swedge on the spine. My sketches look OK, but there's probably no way to make it look "good" doing an aftermarket mangle like this. I had it up for sale, but so far no takers, so I'll modify it a little and see if I like it a little more.

You might want to consider asking one of the countless amateur knifemakers who frequent this place to do it for you (and maybe restore the finish/put a nice satin finish on it afterwards). Unlike you, they probably also got the right tools for the job.
I'm sure that there's someone out there who would do that modification for a moderate fee.

Check the Production For Sale: Individual forum, probably the bottom of the first page or beginning of the second page.

I can't see the advantage of grinding the blade over just going with a zip-tie wave. I've had a couple zip-ties on my AFCK for the last year or so and they work great. Took maybe a minute to install, cost less than a quarter, doesn't affect the warantee, and can be removed in a few seconds.

man, i agree w/that 110%, it just ruins the looks of the knife imho (and the value) when ya wave it. at one time i saw a thing that would clamp on the knife blade to wave it, but i am sure ernie e put a stop to that.

put a tie on it, it works fine and no negatives like ruining the knife, lol

I usually don't use a clip, but I would like to express my sincere thanks to GlockMonkey. I tied a thin rubber band on the oval hole, and it works fine. So that's why BM opted for an oval hole instead of thumbstuds! Everything makes sense now. :D

I doubt that I will use the wave much, but at least I now have a way to open the AFCK fast when using a clip. Time to freak out some LEOs! :footinmou  ;)

If I can save even one AFCK blade it's all worthwhile. :) The blade shape of the 806 is just too nice to uglify by grinding it up. Now if Benchmade would just release an uncoated S30V version.

I would really go for a D2 version.

EDIT: I didn't think that a sarcastic winky face was necessary, but I guess I will add it here: ;) . No offense towards Me2 intended, of course.

Isnt the current version D2?

I put 2 zip ties on the oval hole and it solved most of my issues with the knife. The ties act as thumbstuds, which I feel work better with a thick handle like this. Its hard to engage the oval sometimes. The also work great as a wave. The thing jumps open out of my pocket. If I open it too fast the lock sticks though. Now if I could just get the blade to center. The 806 doubles as an EDC with my new Delica, which also has a tie opener. If the AFCK blade were'nt D2 I might have a chance of wearing it out and getting a new one.

Just for fun last night I put a zip tie on my Endura. It really works! Super fast deployment. :D
