Can you wave a cold steel recon 1 tanto (2010) folding knife? If so, how much? Also the price to add a thumb disk?

If you can't wave it, can you do any other modifications to it to make it open better then the stupid thumb stud... e.g. a thumb disk like the Emerson knives.

Not sure on the Recon 1. I'll have to study the blade shape and let you know.

I've Waved non waved Emersons but on the 7 although its possible and it will work the Wave hook will be small.

As per my agreement with Ernie on Waves when he gave his okay for me to do them all of the Wave mods are $30 and shipping home.

I am heading out for a bit around town with the wife. When I get back I'll look up the other one by Cold Steel and see. Thanks for asking.

or if you could possibly add a thumb disk such as that on the cold steel AK47, it also functions as a wave. I really like the CS recon 1 but I hate the thumb stud on it...

Those kind of things need done before heat treating. Now that its a hardened blade there is no way I could thread a hole in it. Thumb disc not happening sorry. I don't see the Wave working on that one to be honest with you. I'm not saying someone couldn't grind a hook in the blade but I doubt seriously if it would work real well and in all likelihood it would just ruin the knife.

Hi STR! I was wondering if you've ever waved anything like a Laguiole or a Spanish navaja. I love the way they look and handle and I think a small waved one would make a great pocket carry piece.

No I have not. Not familiar with either really. I know the names but not the knives. Generally speaking if the knife doesn't have plenty of rise to it along the spine somewhere its hard to wave them at all and make them work. So usually they need a bit of a raised area to allow the hook to catch the pocket easy without having to consciously tweak the knife such a way as to make it catch when you draw it. Its not that the Wave action is totally unconscious but it should be mostly that way I think with maybe a tiny % required of actual intent and not the other way around.

Thanks STR. I hear you about the rise on the spine. I carry an Emerson Karambit every day and have for three years now. I think the knife I have in mind would be suitable for waving. I PMed you a link to a knife just like it. Would there be any way to keep the thumb stud and cut into the blade?

I also just bought a small Spyderco Kopa with pearl and abalone inserts I'd like to have waved. It's going to be my weak hand pocket carry piece. As pretty as it is, I could use it for everyday cutting tasks, but it would be a little extra surprise to keep under wraps for if and when it's needed.
