I pulled this from the RMJ Forge

What is Japan Dryer and where can it be purchased. Any thoughts on this concoction?

The entire tomahawk is rubbed down with a wax finish that is made at RMJ Forge. The tomahawk is given about 5 coats over a period of 8 hours, and then buffed with a loose cotton buff. Many customers have requested the wax recipe for their own use. Here it is:

2 cups of Johnson's Paste Wax

2 cups of Turpentine

3 cups of boiled Linseed oil

2 tablespoons of Japan Dryer

Mix these ingredients into a double boiler. Once the wax has melted, place in a container and shake it up. It should dry to a very soft wax, almost liquid. It spreads thin, soaks in, but dries hard

Japan dryer is used to speed up drying time of paints. Can be purchased at most artist/craft supply stores.

You're supposed to do this on an electric stove? Right?!!

I don't think turpentine and an open gas flame would mix...not in the house, anyway.

Using a double boiler and being careful should prevent any problems. Of couse it would be a good idea to have an extinguisher handy or something to cover the container incase of flare-up.
