Dad passed away about 4 yrs ago, and was going through a few of the boxes from his shop today. And for me, WOW!!! What cool stuff, memories.....
First is a generic chinese import boot knife. Means nothing to anyone else, but belonged to my brother, who passed away in 1987.....
Second is my first fixed blade, first survival knife. An old Air Force survival knife that dad got during a barracks inspection in Landstuhl, Germany.
She needs a bit of cleaning up, maybe a good neatsfoot oil of the handle, but it is still a quite decent hard use knife.
Now, for my favorite, most interesting find;
I know nearly everyone had owned one of these. How many of our knife obsessions were started with one of these old "survival knives"!!! This one was also my brothers first fixed blade, so it priceless to me. Also, I am amazed that the entire survival kit is still present. Fishing gear, matches and striker, ball compass in pomel, wire saw with handles, sharpening stone, and faux vinyl sheath!!! I couldn't be happier with a piece of junk knife!!!!! THis will pass to my son in 30 or 40 years!!!! My brother sharpened it apparently, as the edge has been worked on, and the stone also. Do you remember trying to sharpen this pot metal
I had long since thought these had all been lost to time and some distant yard sale. What a great surprise!
Again, I hope some may find this interesting.....it was a wonderful walk through the memories for me!!!!
