Dad passed away about 4 yrs ago, and was going through a few of the boxes from his shop today. And for me, WOW!!! What cool stuff, memories.....

First is a generic chinese import boot knife. Means nothing to anyone else, but belonged to my brother, who passed away in 1987.....

Second is my first fixed blade, first survival knife. An old Air Force survival knife that dad got during a barracks inspection in Landstuhl, Germany.

She needs a bit of cleaning up, maybe a good neatsfoot oil of the handle, but it is still a quite decent hard use knife.

Now, for my favorite, most interesting find;

I know nearly everyone had owned one of these. How many of our knife obsessions were started with one of these old "survival knives"!!! This one was also my brothers first fixed blade, so it priceless to me. Also, I am amazed that the entire survival kit is still present. Fishing gear, matches and striker, ball compass in pomel, wire saw with handles, sharpening stone, and faux vinyl sheath!!! I couldn't be happier with a piece of junk knife!!!!! THis will pass to my son in 30 or 40 years!!!! My brother sharpened it apparently, as the edge has been worked on, and the stone also. Do you remember trying to sharpen this pot metal :D I had long since thought these had all been lost to time and some distant yard sale. What a great surprise!

Again, I hope some may find this interesting.....it was a wonderful walk through the memories for me!!!!

I remember one of those as well. I never had one. Always wanted one as a kid. But my cousin had one and let me "play" with it everytime I was at his house. That is a cool find. I'm happy you could find some good out things.

Yeah, "First Blood" came out in '82, so I am 99% sure he got the blade in '82.

Crazy, but I think I owned one of those exact "generic chineese boot knives" when I was a kid. It was my first "large" knife. I pretty much only did stupid things with it (since it wasn't sharp enough to whittle with, and couldn't keep an edge). I think I broke the handle in half throwing it if I recall correctly...

And here I was thinking that I would never see one of those again.

Nice pics :).

Memories for me, too. I had a very similar boot knife when I was young as well. though mine had an ill-fitting wooden handle. And I did dumb stuff like throw it too. And, oddly enough. My brother had the classic "rambo knife" as well. Though, IIRC, his was black in finish. Far from good, but ubiquitous with a time now long gone and fondly remembered. thanks for sharing.

Edit:
OMG :D that video is the best thing that's happened to me in about a month! A total blast from the past. I love how the marketing says there's like 17 free things if you call now. and that belt buckle is the most 80's-riffic thing I've seen since Knight rider !!! Made my day...

LOL , I remember that commercial , my mom would not let me get it though , even with my own allowance.... Just as well I suppose. The sound it makes when it hits the tree is freakin hilarious :D
I had that very same HD belt buckle , I wish I still had it , be worth a little dough now maybe. Those buckles on a nice belt made a great "weapon" to defeat tumbleweeds with back in those days... The memories.

I had that exact model - I think it was a gift. I couldn't get a good edge on that rascal no matter how hard I tried.

I have no idea where it ended up.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I totally forgot about that one.

You could spend a few hundred dollars on really nice knives and not have the connection to them that you have with these, I'd say you just acquired your most valuable knives. Good for you.

Never saw the original commercial but that was hilarious...

Great to see that you found old treasures.

Nice! Those have a certain charm to them, and even more since they belonged to your dad & brother.
The Pilot's Knife is a real beauty, you know the kind.... like that funky girl in combat boots with purple hair, who's stuck in your head all day, even though you're dating the cheerleader. ;) Is yours an Ontario or a Camillus? I've got mine on my hip right now; it's an Ontario, made 2/80.
I like that dagger, too. I have a soft spot for those 1980s imports.
