Just to show we cover all topics, here are some fun holiday treats that are easy to make. Get some Hershey Kisses, some cherries with stems, some chocolate to melt, some almond slices, and some of those little tubes of decorating frosting. Melt the chocolate, dip the cherries, and stick them to a Kiss. Dip the end of the almond slice in chocolate, and stick them to the back of the Kiss for the ears. Use the tube of frosting to add the eyes and nose, and presto, chocolate mice If you have kids they will love to make these.

That's really cute. I can see kids having a great time making those. Maybe we could carve one of the almonds into the shape of a blade and the mice could EDC. :)

Hi John -

That is a really cute idea, sounds like fun to make and not too expensive to put the ingredients together!

If I can get the kids over this week, I'll get some makings and we will try that.

For the JK folks - and this is not what I would call an easy recipe to make (just takes time and patience), but here is my recipe for Bacon Brittle. (yep - that's right....)

Bacon Brittle

candy thermometer
2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
2 1/2 cups raw peanuts
1 1/2 teaspoon sifted baking soda
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) salted butter
1/2 cup bacon bits (1lb Oscar Meyer bacon, fried crispy and broken into small pieces)

Butter two cookie sheets - set aside
Butter sides of 4 qt saucepan

Combine Sugar, corn syrup, butter and water in saucepan.
Heat on medium high to boiling.
Reduce heat to medium low.
Heat to 275 degrees, stirring constantly. (30 minutes)
Add peanuts.
Heat to 275 degrees and add bacon
Heat to 295 degrees - remove from heat
Remove thermometer and add baking soda
Stir rapidly, the baking soda will cause the mixture to froth and form a batter
Pour batter out onto buttered cookie sheets -
Even out with back of spoon.
Allow to cool for 30 minutes.
Press on candy to break into pieces.

Enjoy the best Bacon Brittle this side of heaven.

That looks good! If you make mice, you can get the chocolate (Wiltons) to melt at Michaels. We are going to do some white mice next.

Try Rudolf, my kids help make these.

Pretzels, Rolo, and red M&Ms. Put pretzel with the Rolo on it in oven till the chocolate gets soft enough to let the red M&M stick. They made some with pecans instead of the red M&Ms, I liked those better.

John, that is a cute idea!

mqqn, that bacon brittle looks delicious, and peanut brittle is one of my favorite things but, I don't get it very often because it is not one of the best things for my sugar or my colesterol! If you have any extra, you know where I am! Ha! Ha!

You guys take care,

ft

those are neat ideas we've been making those cookies in a box, store bought things with sprinkles.

After I completed my morning on BF I was going to look for a simple but "different" idea for tonight. It looks like it will be the mice and if I have time the reindeer.
Thanks for the ideas.
