Our mini dachshund is having puppies! So far, we have two little bitty boys. We think that there is one more in there. If yo'all want to see pics, I will try to post some later! We are going to keep one and name it INFI, or Little Jerry Busse (like on Seinfeld) just kidding Jerry. More later.

Congrats and best wishes with the pups!! Aren't dogs great? I have a 1 1/2 old German Shepherd bitch and I am contemplating breeding her. :)

Congradulations on the new puppies!!

Since this post is about dogs, have a question ou dog lovers can help me with. I like dogs also, and our team even has a dog now we keep in our team house. My question, is that I worry over, is as you know I have been deployed for over a year overseas to various theatres of operation. I knew I was going to gone for a while-so I rented out my house to a lovely family. THey have a well behaved small dog (at least that is wat they told me) IS that little dog going to ruin my house and make it really smell?? If I replace the carpet and get a new interior paint job, will that square it away and get rid of any dog smell?? I am even thinking of getting a new puppy myself when I get back-more of an outdoor dog. BUt I wnat my house fresh again, the way I left it. Thanks. and hope my questions do not take away from alphaman's joy. Dauchands are realy cool little dogs!!

If the little dog is house trained, then you shouldn't have a problem. Even if it has had a few "accidents", if they were promptly and properly cleaned, you should be ok. If there is a really bad odor when you get home, you might have to have the carpets professionally cleaned, or you could replace them but that might be expensive.

Puppy update. We have a total of 4 new puppies. 3 boys and a girl. I will try to get pics up soon for anyone that is interested. Lord knows we have taken enough. I have had to empty the memory stick once already and the other one is full too. More later.:D

My wife has a long hair mini that is great with the kids and tough as nails. He has been raised with my lab/shep mix that now is 100 lbs. That little dog is not scared of anything. they are now fully outside dogs as I could never get the little dog house trained. Do you have that problem? My vet says it is common in the dachshund line. Other than that, they are great dogs, and they do not take up much space.

We have 3, not counting the pups. One never house trained so she is an outside dog now. She is a smooth coat. We have a long hair boy (papa of puppies) that comes in and stays out. He is house trained fairly well, but you have to watch him. The other girl (mama) is very house trained. If she can't get outside she goes on indoor puppy pads. I think that they may be a little harder to house train. I don't know why though. They are all very smart. I think that they are a great breed. They are all very brave and they make great alarm dogs. They can also catch a rabbit like nothing else I have ever seen.

Ranger, I have two labs that live in the house, no problem. I bought the house from a "lovely family"; the kids will do more damage than the dogs ever can. The dogs have never dropped toys down the heating vents and left them for humans to find years later, they can't hold onto crayons or markers, and the list goes on. Of course, I do like dogs more than kids so maybe I'm a little prejudiced.

Great ,now I not only have to worry about the dog messing up my house, but the kids also!!!! Thanks alot!:D

Off topic kinda but, the best way to house train a dog is when it's a puppy.
Get a cage for the dog and line it with newspapers. Have it sleep and stay in there for as long as it takes. Only let him out to go right outside. At first it will do it's business in the cage for a few days. But dogs don't like to sleep where they poop so they catch on very fast that they would rather hold it and go outside.
Any time my dog has to go he simply scratches at the door and we let him out. He would seriously go for days without going outside and not dare to pee in the house. If they do mess up get loud with them and give em a little smack on the ass :D Make sure they know it's wrong.

I love dogs! My dog is smarter than me and he knows it. He's always mocking and laughing at me over little things :grumpy: Silly dogs..

Oh great!, now I have to worry about the dog messing up the house, kids destroying my house, and additionally the dog scrathing up my front door!!:D :D :D

Don't sweat it Ranger, it probably won't be that bad.

If you are going to get a dog anyway, it won't matter.

Even if there is dammage it should be small.

The most we have ever had was some minor drywall, new carpets, and a paint job.

That was the worst one we have ever had, and that is out of a lot of properties, and over quite a few years.

So more than not you will be just fine, I wouldn't even worry about it.
